Duke of Edinburgh

Caving/Kayaking Excursion

On 22 March, the Year 9 Duke of Ed class went on an excursion, white water kayaking and caving.

Our first activity was white water kayaking where we were able to experience kayaking and were given the opportunity to go down the rapids in some areas of the river. After we had completed our journey down the river we played some games on our rafts - lining all the rafts in a row and running down them, where a few people fell into the water. We were blessed with clear skies which added to the amazing time we had kayaking.

The second activity was caving where we travelled to Britannica Creek to explore some caves. This activity challenged many people and many of us battled fears of caving. We were split into two groups where we had to work in our teams to get our whole group through the caves.

Some areas were particularly difficult where there were very small gaps to go through or when there was water at our feet that we had to avoid. One of the challenges our group faced was going through the 'Ninja' passage, where we all had to go on our backs and crawl through a freezing cold river to climb out of the cave. Although there were many challenges we faced, our group helped each other complete the activities. Altogether it was an amazing day and certainly an experience I will never forget.
