From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

Welcome to Term 3! We were reminded how quickly the year is slipping by when the Year 12 students had their final assembly as a year level last Friday. It was an opportunity them to take a little time to reflect on all they have achieved and can be proud of, to look ahead to next year, and to enjoy each other’s company and friendship over lunch together. It was inspiring to listen to former students Song Tinh, Kellie Phan and Ling Sun talk about their post school pathways and how they managed the demands of Year 12. And we were entertained by the fabulous MAC band with two numbers from the upcoming Addams Family; followed by the sensational staff band with Ms Tracy D’Elton and Ms Amy Lee, in a very convincing rendition of Abba’s Mama Mia, and Ms Emily Simoes joining them to, literally, get the crowd jumping to Uptown Funk.

We wish all of our Year 12’s the very best for their remaining weeks of school.

Education State Forum 2019

Each year the Department of Education and Training hosts its Education State Forum. This event brings together key stakeholder groups, senior leaders and policy makers, and representative from the school sectors to review progress and consider next steps in terms of the Education State agenda and targets.

This year our school was invited to run a workshop on Excellence in Literacy and Numeracy. Ms Avril Good, Learning Specialist Data for Learning, and Mr Owen McIntyre, senior Mathematics teacher, outlined for participants the strategies, programs and teacher development practices we have implemented to lift growth and achievement for our students in literacy and numeracy.

The growth our students make is consistently very strong, and places our school, on this measure, amongst the top schools nationally. It is a credit to the work of our staff and leader in Literacy and Numeracy.

Avril and Owen spoke about the Red Books writing project, the reading program in Literate Practices and English/EAL, the Getting Ready in Numeracy (GRIN) program, pathways in mathematics, and teacher professional learning.

They received excellent feedback on their presentations and on their leadership roles in this work.

Congratulations and thank you to Avril and Owen.

As well as contributing to the workshops, our school was asked to provide the art work for the exhibition in the foyer of the Pullman on the Park Hotel where the Education State Forum was held.

Mr Michael Bowden, Head of Arts, curated an excellent range of works across different media and year levels.  The students’ work drew admiration and high praise from the forum attendees and there were even offers to purchase various pieces!

Congratulations to Michael and the Art students.
