ST ALBANS ENTERS PRESTIGIOUS

DANTE ALIGHIERI POETRY COMPETITION

On Thursday 27 June, the Italian department had the pleasure of escorting 32 students from years 10, 11 and 12 into the city to participate in the prestigious Dante Alighieri Poetry Competition at Melbourne University. Students travelled into the city by train and competed alongside many other secondary schools in Melbourne. Over 3,000 students competed in the language competition across Melbourne.

Students were required to recite by memory selected poems in front of a panel of expert judges. They were marked on their pronunciation, fluency and delivery.

Students and teachers then made their way to the famous Lygon St, Carlton where they practised their language skills, tasted the culinary delights and shopped for all things Italian!

Many thanks to all the teachers that worked hard to once again make this day possible. It was an extremely enjoyable day for all. Good luck to all the entrants and we look forward to the results which will be posted in week 1 of term 3.

This year many of our students received Distinctions and High Distinctions for their poetry recital.

Congratulation go to Maria Villareal from 10 F who has made in into the finals and represents St Albans. We wish her the very best of luck.
