Principal's Report

Principal's Report

I often refer to our community as the Staughton family. We work in strong partnership to support our children. I am well aware that many of our families will be doing it tough through this period. Keeping our connection and care for each other as a community will be vital throughout the next few months as we support each other’s wellbeing. We will be here for you. We care and we can help. It will not be perfect but we will be working hard to support our community.

Term 1 finishes Monday 23rd March at 2.20. We will continue to follow the advice from our Governments at the start of Term 2.  You will be kept updated via Facebook and XUNO. The situation with the global COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented and rapidly evolving. We urge members of our school community to follow the advice issued by the Department of Health to stay healthy and safe. We are implementing all of the advice for schools.

We aim to provide stability and support so that our students are able to continue to learn. If we do move to online learning it will not be the same as going to school. We aim to keep things simple so that they work. We will have a particular focus on supporting Year 12 students.

If we move to online learning we believe that maintaining routines will be really important for students. We will be running our normal timetable through Google Classrooms. Google Classrooms is accessible on all devices including phones. Teachers will be available for communication and support during normal class time but we ask students to be patient when waiting to hear back from their teachers. Please contact us if your family does not have a device to access Google Classrooms.

I would like to particularly thank our school staff. Teachers and Education Support Staff have been beyond amazing as we have prepared for many contingencies. They have worked tirelessly to prepare. Their teamwork has been outstanding. Students have also been cooperative throughout this time. Our student leaders have been magnificent in helping to educate and communicate with our students. They visited all tutorial groups last Friday with messages about possible online learning and reminders about hygiene and social distancing. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to the cooperation and support of our parents.

It is vitally important that we maintain our connection, relationships, and generally care for each other at this time.

Please take care and stay safe.
