Year 12 Studio Arts Excursion – ACCA/Blindside/
NGV
The Year 12 Studio Arts class had their final excursion on Thursday with students visiting Australian Centre of Contemporary Art (ACCA), Blindside Artspace and the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).
Students received detailed and exciting presentation for gallery education officers explaining to them the process behind the scenes in presenting an art exhibition.
Students were fortunate enough to see a huge variety of contemporary artworks but also seeing some familiar works they had studied in their junior year levels such as Picasso’s Weeping Woman.
Staughton College was fortunate to participate in ACCA’s free bus service. allowing students to travel to and from the excursion free of charge. This was a fantastic experience for students and we thank ACCA so much for their support in putting this exhibition. During our journey between galleries students enjoyed collecting Pokémon characters.

On the 14th of July, the year 12 Studio Arts class went to visit various galleries in the city, exploring current exhibitions, focusing on layout, theme and presentation of artwork and the space as a whole.
The day started off taking a coach into Melbourne, and arriving at the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art, where we were given a tour through the Ulla von Brandenburg exhibition ‘It has a golden yellow sun and an elderly grey moon’.
We then had lunch and afterwards experienced an artist run incentive called Blindside artspace.
Lastly we visited the very familiar NGV International where we were met with two of the exhibition workers at the gallery who showed us the newly opened NGV kids section which was an interactive exhibition, the permanent collection, and new contemporary artworks. The time was spent explaining the differences, contrasts and restrictions of various artworks.
Overall, we had a fantastic day which was really informative.
