High Attendance Rates
Regular attendance at school is an important factor in student achievement. At Staughton we recognise this and have a minimum 90% attendance requirement across the college.
Our attendance rates in 2016 to date are extremely high, and tracking for further improvement from last year. This is something for the college community to be proud of and celebrate.
Successful post school pathways are built on maximising opportunity for learning at school. Students with high attendance, and high completion of homework and classwork, receive the most feedback from teachers. This gives them the best chance of high improvement in their learning.
We also know that students with disrupted attendance patterns tend to underachieve. Students falling below 90% attendance are able to redeem classes by attending homework club afterschool.
It is also important to remember that the last day of each term is a normal school day, and that students are expected to attend as normal.
We have also increased our focus again on following up of absence in 2016. It is our joint responsibility to ensure all absences are recorded as approved by parents.
If your child is unable to attend school please ensure that you notify the school through the absence line 97435061.
Tutorial Groups
In 2015 we introduced tutorial groups across the school for 20 minutes after session 2. In years 7-10 tutorial groups primarily target reading improvement.
The whole program has been going extremely well in 2016. I would like to thank the vast majority of students for bringing their independent reading books every day.
Selected tutorial groups have been participating in an online program called Literacy Planet. In the first week of this term we had the best participation of any school in the Western Region. This was an outstanding result!
