Achieving Excellence Together
Welcome to our Term 3 Week 9 Newsletter.
Next week we will be hosting our Parent Conferences to discuss students Individual Learning Goals for Term 4. This is a great opportunity to get an understanding of how their child is progressing just before we head into the final term of the year. Thank you to the families who have already made a booking through Compass. If you haven’t yet please give our office a call to arrange a time.
Sports Awareness
Next week we enter the final week of term where student will engage in our quarterly sports awareness program. This initiative is something we introduced at our school in 2017 as a way of broadening students experiences, connecting them with community organisations and providing positive school experiences. This term our 3-6 students will spend the day enhancing their physical health and ninja warrior skills as they head to Bounce. Our F-2 students are scheduled for an onsite event which will include a live performance from a theatre company. Thank you to our Enrichment Team for organising these experiences.
Road Works
Brimbank City Council has informed us that their will be significant road upgrades to our surrounding streets over the coming months. Works have already begun with sections of Diamond Avenue closed to traffic and plans for Dover Street to close for works over the coming weeks. To support a safe transition to and from school we will be opening an additional gate each day. Gate D, located at the Athletics Track will now be open to families. We also would like to take this opportunity to encourage as many families as possible to take this as an opportunity to walk or ride to school if possible. Not only will you avoid the traffic congestion, you will also be supporting a safer road environment around our school, reducing greenhouse emissions and engaging in physical exercise. Our School-Bike Shed has secured spaces for up to 80 bikes or scooters which are freely available to students.
Sun Smart Policy
In line with the Department and our school’s Sun Smart Policy and to ensure student safety from UV rays, students will be required to wear their school hats from (1st September) until the end of April 2023, as UV rays are considered highest during these months. Parents, please ensure your child has a navy blue wide brimmed slouch hat at school. Children not wearing hats will be required to sit in the designated shaded area and will not be allowed to participate in outside play.
Learning POWERS!
In recent newsletters we have introduced our Learning Powers we are striving to instil within every student at APS. Our students have already been introduced to the Superpowers and Hero’s which include being Determined, Independent and Reflective. As part of our official launch, all classes are currently working on a creative performance that introduces the dispositions in an exciting and informative way. We will then host a performance afternoon on Wednesday the 5th of October for students to perform for our entire community.
An online vote will then be hosted for students, staff, and community members to select their favourite performance that also taught them the most about our new dispositions. The winning class will receive a special prize inclusive of an all-expenses paid excursion. We hope that as many families as possible will join us for the performance where we will also be launching our new look Student Excellence awards which will replace ‘Learner of the Week’.
Attendance
Thank you to those families who have contacted the school administration when their child has been genuinely unwell and unable to attend school for the day. We appreciate your support in providing an explanation for the absence. Is regular attendance at school important? Yes – from the first day. If your child misses the basic skills in primary school, they can experience difficulties with their learning. Regular attendance is essential to make sure learning is not disrupted. Regular learning provides building blocks for the future. Schools help children to develop important social skills, such as friendship building, teamwork, communication skills and a healthy self-esteem. Remember: Our goal is a “FULL HOUSE” (100% attendance) in all classrooms every day. It is not OK to be away!
Prep Enrolments 2023
Prep Enrolments for 2023 students are being finalised now for children who live in the Albanvale Primary School zone. If you have any children who will be attending Albanvale in 2023 or know of any families of prep age children, please call or visit the school to receive enrolment information. It is important for planning purposes that all prep 2023 students are enrolled as soon as possible.
