Grade Two

It has been a fun filled term filled with lots of exciting whole school events. The students had a great time during Book Week and they enjoyed participating in activities surrounding the theme ‘Dreaming with Eyes Open’. This week, the students also loved having their fathers, grandparents and special people visit the school. The smiles on their faces were priceless. Thank you for all of your efforts and to all that were able to attend.

English

In English, we have been learning about the structure and features of narratives. We have been using what we have learnt in texts to assist us with our writing. The students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring scripts about fairy tales this term. The teachers have equally loved seeing their personalities shine and the improvements they have shown in their expression and acting skills. We believe that we might have a few little actors and actresses on our hands! The students have been working hard on innovating the story of The Three Little Pigs and the Grade Two teachers have been very impressed by their creativity. We are all looking forward to the students performing their narratives using shadow puppets in the upcoming weeks.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been learning a new game each week to help with the students' mental computation. You might like to ask your child about some of the new card games they  have learnt this term, and play them at home. Some of these games include; Go Fish +/- 1, Make 10 and Snap +/1. They have explored the concepts of shape, fractions, money, measurement and number this term. The Grade Two teachers would like to commend the students on displaying a wonderful growth mindset in math as they have been working hard on their problem solving skills.

We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and Father’s Day.

Warm regards,

The Grade 2 Team
