Prep

It is hard to believe that we have almost made it to the end of Term 3! What a fun filled, busy and rewarding term the Preps have had. Here is a little snippet of some of the things we have been doing in the classroom recently…

English:

In SMART Spelling, we have continued our learning about digraph sounds. The Prep students have even begun applying their knowledge of digraph sounds to their reading which is helping them to decode tricky words in texts.

In reading and writing, we have continued learning about narratives, and the Prep students have had many opportunities to identify the important components of the narrative structure (i.e. setting, characters, beginning, middle and end) in mentor and exemplar texts.

They have also been working extremely hard to create their own narrative texts in writing sessions. The students are becoming very creative with their ideas!

We also recently celebrated Book Week, where our school embraced Indigenous stories and culture.

Maths:

In maths, we have focused our units to match important events happening around us. Some of these have included our unit on the Commonwealth Games, where students applied maths skills that they learnt in Semester 1 (e.g. data and graphing, estimating and measuring).

We also completed a maths unit based around creating some designs for re-usable bags (which also linked into the students’ learning about sustainability), where students revised their knowledge of patterns and shapes.

How could we not mention our 100th day of school celebrations, which seems like so long ago now!

Integrated Studies:

As you know, the Preps have been learning all about sustainability this term. They have almost finished painting their re-usable bags, which they will be taking home very soon to use as the shops!

We have continued our discussions around nude food and its link to sustainability. We would really appreciate your support around this, and strongly encourage you to continue this conversation with your child at home. Our goal is to have as many students as possible bringing an entirely nude food lunch box to school each day.

Finally, the Preps recently met their Grade 5 buddy for the very first time. This buddy program will run over two years, meaning that your child will remain with the same buddy next year when they are in Grade 1.
