 Peer Companions Update

Our latest session of Peer Companions was particularly exciting! Our Year 8 students designed a one hour session for the Year 5 students around managing ‘wobbles’ in friendships. The Peer Companions purposefully chose games to start with that they thought would build connections between the Year 5 students.

The session then moved on to brainstorming tips for Year 4 students around how to make new friends. The Year 5 students came up with a long list of great strategies that will be turned into a ‘Tip Sheet’ to help Year 4 students make the transition into the School of Leadership in 2023.

Lastly, students role played scenarios based on ‘wobbles’ in friendships that had been collected using our weekly Skodel data. Realistic scenarios were acted out and discussed. Students not only identified the ‘wobbles’ they could see, they also discussed strategies that could be used in these situations to effectively manage the issues that had arisen.

Once again, I was so impressed by not only the Year 8 Peer Companions, but also the enthusiasm and engagement of the Year 5 students. Well done to all!
