Faith and Mission

Social Outreach -

Vinnies

Vinnies is getting stronger with many eager students working together to reach the needs of our school community. We are excited to begin work in our next focus area in the coming weeks. Next week we begin by supporting The St. Vincent De Paul Food Van (Vinnies Van) by making and donating sandwiches to the vulnerable in our society. Students will be meeting at lunch to make the sandwiches and later that day they will be delivered for distribution.  We thank the students in advance for there assistance and leadership in this area.

Liturgy -  St Luke’s Lifted featuring Iron and Clay

This week the school of leadership and school of entrepreneurs were a part of a live music celebration of our faith this week. The band ‘Iron and Clay’, whose mission is to spread a message of hope through contemporary music and dance and sharing of stories to young people, performed for us at our first St Luke’s Lifted event.  The spirit of 'Lifted' is to create a contemporary celebration of our faith and encourage a deeper relationship with God through the sharing of stories. The feedback from students has been that it was a resounding success. Students from all grades were energetic, joyful and engaged fully in this uplifting experience.

Here were some of the responses we received on what they took away from the performance:

“Listening to the singers' life experiences was inspiring. They have overcome many obstacles in life because of their faith in Jesus.” (Year 5 student)

“I took away that even when you feel like you're at the lowest point of your life, people you trust and people around you will help bring you back to the top.” (Year 7 student)

“I learnt that there is always someone there for you whether it be God, a trusted family member or friend. You simply need to ask for help.” (Year 9 student)

“We always have someone there to help us with our mental wellbeing and we should always try and face and look to God when we need to.” (Year 10 student)

“The biggest takeaway was messages that they said about life in general. For someone who is going through a hard time, this is perfect for those who needed to hear something. “ (Year 11 student)

Stage 4:

Students in Year 7 have been exploring the characteristics of the Holy Trinity and they have also been unpacking the ‘Greatest Commandment’. They used the discussion board to answer the question, ‘Why is the Greatest Commandment said to be the most essential to our life?’. Students created a script to explain the Holy Trinity and they later made an audio version of the same. Students also looked at different scenarios to reflect on how they will apply the Greatest Commandment in their lives. A sample for each of these can be found below.
