Principal's Message

St Luke's... "nurturing faith filled, curious children to become creative contributors and innovative problem solvers for a changing world."

Dear St Luke's families and Supporters,

I trust you are all well as we complete the last full week of Winter and look forward to the promise of Spring.

Late last term the College Campus leaders confirmed that we will introduce a K-12 House System from the beginning of 2023. In a school the size of St Luke’s the implementation of a House System reflects a commitment to developing and growing a wellbeing ecosystem which strives to create an interconnectedness vital for our community. Developing an approach which sees “6 Houses within the one home we call St Luke’s” is very important in the context of the physical size of the College and the number of students on campus. It will be the positive, healthy relationships fostered through a House system that will play an important role in ensuring our community remains an uplifting and positive place for all. The House System will:

  • be family based;
  • provide a pastoral care structure for year 7-12; and,
  • allow Stage 3 opportunities to ‘vertically connect’  with Stage 4, and possibly Stage 5 and 6.

This approach will allow for:

  • a real sense of family spirit within a House;
  • closer links being formed between students from different Year Groups and stages, both within and across SOF, SOL and SOE;
  • increased opportunities for student connection across year groups and stage groups:;
  • more leadership opportunities and  opportunities for leadership; and,
  • “continuity of care” over an extended period of time, between school, student and family.

Houses are yet to be named after people who fulfil the following criteria: "Houses at St Luke’s are named after historically significant and character-filled change agents who profoundly and positively impacted the world in the service of others." As such, there has been developed a 'Shortlist of House Names'. This document provides suggestions of people along with an outline as to why there could be a St Luke's House named after each person listed.

As such, and after reading 'Shortlist of House Names' parents will be asked to register their preferences via a survey. The survey link is accessible via the Compass notification sent to all parents and carers earlier today. I ask that you complete the survey by 9:00am, Wednesday 31 August. Students and staff will also have access to opportunities next week where they can register their preferences as well.

The Names of Houses announced by the end of this term. Next week, a process will be introduced for the appointment of House Captains who will be in the Year 12, 2023 cohort. It is anticipated that there will be a ceremony at the end of this term where the College will formally announce the names of Houses, House Captains and which newly appointed House Leaders will lead each House.

Exciting times indeed.

Yours faithfully

Mr Greg Miller

Principal Leader
