Netball Victoria Schools Championships

Tuesday 2 August

Our EIS Netball program athletes, plus some very talented LHS netball extras, competed at the Netball Victoria Schools Championships.

This event decides the best Netball school in the state, as government and non-government schools participate.

We had three Intermediate teams that all performed extremely well. Our Navy team finishing 3rd, Yellow team finishing 4th and White team finishing 6th.

Our Senior girls performed extremely well finishing 3rd in their division. A highlight was beating Yarra Valley Grammar and pushing overall winners Caulfield Grammar.

Thank you to Ms Wyatt and Mr Rogers for helping coach and supervise the day.

Congratulationsand well done to our 4 teams on the day!

Tuesday 2 August

Well done to the Intermediate Girls Soccer team who competed at the EMR competition.

Senior Boys & Girls Basketball

Tuesday 2 August

Congratulations to our Senior Basketball teams who competed at the SSV Region Championships at Dandenong.

The girls had 2 good wins against Doncaster and Vermont SC. The final game against Box Hill SSC was a tight battle with the girls up for 3/4 of the game, before running out of steam and being beaten.

The boys competed hard all day for 3 tight losses.

Year 8 Boys Table Tennis

Wednesday 3 August

We headed to Kilsyth Stadium seeking ultimate Table Tennis glory. Our ten strong team members were excited, well-drilled and ready to dominate the table.

First up was Healesville, where we displayed strong form and took home an early win. Next up was the Heights, where again, we took home the win. Both teams made the finals!

We couldn’t have played any better in the A grand final, it came down to three matches each and fifteen sets each. It was time for a countback on points. Agonisingly, we fell short on the countback, but I couldn’t be prouder of how the team played.

In the other final, we had greater success, finishing the day in second and third place.

I must commend how the team behaved and displayed positive sportsmanship. Well done to all involved.

Year 8 Basketball

Wednesday 3 August

Our Year 8 Basketball teams competed in the Yarra division against some great competition.

LHS was represented fantastically with 7 teams and over 60 students competing for the school.

Our Division 1 Boys showed their strength all day by winning each game by over 30 points to win the Yarra Division.

The Division 1 Girls avenged their loss from the start of the day, to win the Grand Final in the Yarra Division, largely thanks to some master coaching from Mr Stuart.

Our Division 2 Boys also won their Grand Final, meaning we won 3 out of a possible 4 GRAND FINALS for the day!!

Our Division 1 teams will advance to the Regional round.

Congratulations and well done to all students on a fabulous day!

Year 7 Girls Netball

Wednesday 3 August

The Year 7 girls netball team went to Waverley to compete in the Eastern Metro Region Netball competition.

The team won 2 out of their 3 pool matches to finish second and move on to the finals.

We came up against a tough opponent in Rowville who unfortunately were too good for us in the semi final.

It was an amazing experience for the girls to go up against some of Victoria’s best netball players, including some state school representatives.

Intermediate Girls Netball

Friday 5 August

Well done to our Intermediate Girls team who played some brilliant Netball at the Eastern Region finals.

  • 1st Game - Defeated Vermont SC (21-18)
  • 2nd Game - Lost to Doncaster SC (24-31)
  • 3rd Game - Defeated Koonung SC (19-15)

We faced a very tough Rowville in the semi finals. Proud of the girls for giving it their best but unfortunately, Rowville just too strong, losing 12-34.

Thank you to Year 10 students, Keira and Hailey for scoring (and Hailey helping out for an injured Summer).

Champions Cup - Basketball

Tuesday 16 August

The Senior Boys EIS Basketball team competed in Basketball Victoria's Champions Cup tournament at the State Basketball Centre.

The boys faced some tough competition, dropping all 3 games.  Plenty of learning opportunities for the boys throughout the day.

The Champions Cup tournament is for government, independent and private schools across all sporting associations, meaning the best of the best compete against each other regardless of their affiliations.

Hoop Time Basketball Coaching

Monday 22 August

Well done to our Year 11 Sport and Recreation group and Year 10 EIS basketball students who coached students from Victoria Road Primary and Billanook Primary in their Hoop Time Basketball.

The students did an amazing job displaying great leadership and communication skills working with the primary kids.

Year 7 Table Tennis

Thursday 25 August

It was a wet and windy start to the day, but we weren’t concerned, as thankfully table tennis is an indoor sport.

We made our way to Kilsyth Sports Centre with a team of nine well drilled and skilled budding table tennis superstars. The boys had four matches ahead of them, where the girls were straight through to the grand final.

In the boys competition, they started extremely well winning their first two matches quite convincingly. The bye came at a crucial time, where we could all cheer on and support the girls for their grand final. It was a tough fought match against Lilydale Heights coming down to a countback on sets. Our girls played fantastically well and the result fell our way. The pennant was coming back with us!

This led us to the final two matches for the boys. It was a tight game against the eventual winners, but the boys finished strong and won their final match, resulting in placing second overall for the day.

I must commend both teams in the way they played and the sportsmanship they displayed. Bring on the next round!
