Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

The ART SHOW is the next exciting major event on our school calendar. This will be a showcase of the children's artwork created this year. Each child has selected their preferred pieces for the show and they will each have a minimum of four art pieces on display.

Opening Night is Wednesday 7th September at 6pm, 7pm speeches and raffles. The Art Show closes on Wednesday 14th September.

Opening Night family tickets are available from the office for $10. Tickets to win the class pieces that are on display in the foyer, are available before and after school in the courtyard. $1 for 1 ticket, $2 for 3 tickets.

Swimming Program

We have been very happy with the delivery of the swimming program at Ashburton Pool. The children will have their final lesson tomorrow. We have observed that the children have certainly made progress in their swimming ability and confidence.

In addition to the improved swimming ability we have also observed improvement in the children's ability to be independent walking into the pool area, getting changed and being ready for the lesson. This is a valuable life skill and we are very impressed to see this independence developing.

FETE News

Our next FETE meeting will be held TONIGHT at 7pm in the staffroom. All parents are most welcome to attend. We'll try to keep it short as I understand there is a football match on tonight!!!!

SPORTS NEWS

Thursday Morning Fitness

Commencing next Thursday 8th September at 8:00am Sue Tobin, our PE teacher, will again be offering our running/walking club for Preps- Year 6. Parents and preschoolers are welcome to come and walk with us and enjoy the morning air on the oval. This will continue throughout Term 4.

District Athletics at Knox 22nd August

All the children who participated are to be commended for their sportsmanship and efforts. The students met new children from other schools, learnt new skills and enjoyed great weather.

A number of children from our school came either first or second in their events and will go on to division level on Wednesday 5th October. Congratulations to all of these children. Mrs Tobin will be in contact with these children and their parents in the next couple of weeks.

Tennis Hot Shots

20 senior students will represent our school in Tennis Hot Shots at Clarinda Tennis Club on Friday 9th September.

Tree Planting

We are currently in the process of purchasing a large number of trees, shrubs, ground covers and grasses to help 'green-up' our school grounds. We plan to plant along the fence line between the tennis courts and our neigbours fence line as well as various other places around the school.

Once we have have all the plants onsite we will hold a day where all students will have an opportunity to plant a tree, shrub or ground cover.

A REMINDER THAT NEXT MONDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER IS A SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY.

Assemblies

For the next two weeks we will not be holding our Friday assembly in the hall due to the Art work being on display. We will hold these two assemblies in the court yard weather permitting, otherwise they will be held virtually.

Take care and keep safe everyone
