Book Week August 2022

The annual Book Week parade is always eagerly anticipated at Weeden Heights and it was fabulous to seeso many students and teachers dressing up as their favourite book characters.  Many thanks to the families who brought a gold coin donation. We are pleased to announce that we raised just under $82 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

During the week, students in grades 3 and 4 explored a number of finalists in the children's picture book of the year competition.  One of our favourites was Stellarphant, written by James Foley and tells the tale of an elephant named Stella who dreams of becoming an astronaut.  After reading the text, students enjoyed visualising and describing themselves in their dream job.

Author Visit

Book Week was certainly action packed and also included a visit from renowned children’s author Kelly Wilson.  Kelly brought her passion for children's literature to Weeden and students were enthralled as she shared stories about her writing and read aloud from her memorable books.

Prime Minister's Spelling Bee

It was wonderful to see such a great response to the Prime Minister's Spelling Bee held for the first time at Weeden Heights in August. Just over half of the students in years 3-6 participated in the free online competition.

We are very pleased to announce that Ethan Mulholland from grade 4 will be progressing through to the State Finals to be held in September.  Awesome effort Ethan and we wish you well during the next round!
