A Word from the Principal

Ms Kylie Campbell

A Warm Welcome to our Weeden Heights Community

A warm welcome to our community

It is terrific to see the weather warming up even though we have had rain.  Spring is definitely in the air!  Before I begin,  I just wanted to say a massive thank you to those families that attended the working bee. We have so much to do before the capital works begin and we are most grateful.

Book Week was exciting with our book character dress up day and author visit.  These celebrations mean so much more to us now after the last few years!

Also, congratulations to Ethan  Mulholland….what a champion making it to the state finals of the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee.  That’s incredible…go Ethan!

Capital Works

Well, it is getting exciting now at school with the impending capital works.  Please take a look at a few of the architect’s designs.

The colourings for the school will remain in the blue tones but will now incorporate some greens to blend in with our beautiful environment and greys to complement the existing brick.

I will send out more details soon but the junior school classes will move up to the top corridor in the last week of school so they work in their new classrooms prior to the end of term.  That way they will feel settled returning in term 4.

The office will remain open in its current location for a little while longer but will move up to the library so when you come to the office, it will be through the library courtyard.  I have a few more meetings to attend to clarify access points for school and I will give you these changes and instructions as soon as I can.  Safety is the number one priority for all of our community.  We have had our roof leak and toilets flood with the rain this week so we can not wait for our new roof!

Father’s Day Stall

On the weekend, it will be Father’s Day and for the first time in several years it will be celebrated rather than being in lockdown.     It will be awesome to spend this time with our parents/grandparents rather than being at home.

Tomorrow, the PFA will run a stall so that our students have the opportunity to purchase items that can be given as gifts on Sunday.  A big thank you to the PFA for organising the stall and thanks to the parent volunteers who are supporting the students to complete their shopping.

I would like to thank all of the fabulous males who are our dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles and community members that continue to contribute to our school.  Without the efforts of these father figures we would not have some of the fabulous things that we do at Weeden Heights PS.   Thank-you!

We really hope that all of our families spend some quality time together to celebrate on the weekend! Happy Father’s Day!

Naplan Results 2022

The Naplan results for the state were released to schools on Wednesday 31 August.  Parents will receive results soon once they arrive at school.

Weeden Heights has performed extremely high overall so we will be using this information to extend our students even further in term 4.  We need to congratulate our students and teachers for their impressive results.   I am so proud of their results and achievements.  Top work team!

Naplan in 2023 will occur in March so we will be aiming for as much growth as possible in that short time.

Annual Parent Survey

Thank you to the parents who have already participated in the annual DET parent survey.  The last day to complete the survey is Friday 16 September.  All families were sent a survey link via an email and I always offer the survey to all of the Weeden Heights PS families as we value your opinion and thoughts. If you have a moment, we would greatly appreciate your input.

Workforce Planning

Preparations for 2023 are well underway.  I continue to need your support so that the leadership team and I can make the best decisions for the school.

If you intend leaving Weeden Heights and your children will be starting at another school next year, can you please let me know, in writing, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to our calculations. Also, if you have not yet enrolled at school or one of your neighbours has not yet enrolled, then please do so asap as this does affect grades.

Please do not leave it to the last minute to indicate your intentions as it does have a profound effect on the proposed budget.   Having accurate student enrolments is critical in establishing a sound  and balanced budget.

Professional Practice Pupil Free Day

Just a reminder that our professional practice day for term 3 is on Tuesday 13 September and students are not required to attend school.  OSHC will be running a program to support some of our families on that day so please look out for enrolment forms if you need assistance.

End of Term 3

The last day of term 3 is Friday 16 September and officially school will finish at 2.30pm.  We will all be in our footy colours as PFA are running a footy day.

Parents are of course welcome to attend the assembly under the sails which will commence at 2.15pm.  Please stand at the back so there is enough space for the students to sit down.  You are welcome to wear a mask.  There will be several end of term special awards.

Until next time……
