Principal's Message

Our children are our future...

Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 3. We hope the winter break was kind to all of our students, families and staff. I know the SMPS team are very excited to be back to see and support our kids.

I will start off with some exciting news. Susie Patch, our wonderful Grade 1 Team Leader, is expecting her first child in December. Yay! Susie and her partner Karst are very excited about this news - as we all are at SMPS.  Susie will continue teaching 1A and supporting the students with their learning into Term 4, before beginning maternity leave at a date to be determined closer to the time. As always, we will be diligent in filling the gap left by Susie, but for now - we celebrate this wonderful news.

We have a very busy term ahead of us. I strongly advise all families to access the Curriculum Statements in this edition. Find your child's class and have a good read. Each one contains important dates and information to set your child up for success.

We have an Open Day for new parents/enrolments on July 22nd starting at 9:30am. Please spread the word to anyone you know who wants to join (or check out) the school for prospective enrolment. We also have a Celebration of Learning Day on July 23rd at 9am. This date is an invitation for all current families to come in to see the learning. We are hopeful that COVID restrictions do not intervene again - so fingers crossed we will see most of you soon. Please look at the next page for finer details - but pencil it into your diary now.

I have left the COVID-safe page towards the end of this iNewsletter edition. A reminder that you should drop off your child in the morning outside the gate and can pick them up at the end of the day by waiting for them to come to you in the forecourt. We thank you for your cooperation.

Our Parent Opinion Survey will be coming out early in Term 3. We strive hard for the students and we hope you have kind and generous things to say about our work. We value your views and hope to get a good response return if that link reaches your inbox.

It is an honour to lead our school community and I really look forward to the same level of wonderful support you have all given me (and the staff ) in previous years. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a COVID-free term!

Staffing Update

Last term, we said farewell to Mandy Cater who has been helping us as a Multicultural Education Aide and Tutor over the last few years. Mandy was our first MEA and did a wonderful job in setting things up. She was an incredibly diligent, dedicated and passionate supporter of all students. Mandy is taking 6 months leave.

Jennarita Calvi also said goodbye as she went on to pursue her career in Speech Pathology. Jennarita had been with us for over two years in various student support roles. We were very lucky to have her services and wish her the best in her journey.

Sandra Messina, who had set up our library, also called it quits after a long and glorious career. Sandra initially volunteered back in 2018 to help us for a few weeks and ended up staying for longer than three years! She has retired. We are very grateful for her work as a volunteer and library technician in setting us up for success.

SMPS wishes all three of these wonderful people the best as they take the next step in their life's journeys.
