Sharing The Planet
YEAR FOUR - TERM 1, 2021
Transdisciplinary theme: Sharing The Planet
CENTRAL IDEA
All children have rights regardless of who they are
As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.
The first unit for our students in Year 4 requires students to inquire into their rights and responsibilities discovering whether these are the same as children around the world. They will create a classroom Essential Agreement and explore their own responsibility in various situations.
Concepts
- Connection
- Causation
- Responsibility
Lines of Inquiry
- The rights that all children should have
- The similarities and differences between a right and a responsibility
- Whether these rights differ throughout the world
Action
Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. Action may be bringing a book or artefact related to the inquiry to school, or student initiated drawings/posters/research. We celebrate our students’ ACTION every day in our class-rooms. If you see your children taking independent action at home encourage them to share their action with their class.
Approaches to Learning
- Accepting responsibility
- Respecting others
- Cooperating
