Message from Gemma

Principal – St John's Footscray

Dear families,

Welcome back to Term 3. I certainly hope we have a full term and a settled term.

It was great to end Term 2 with camp for our senior students. Our children were amazing - so grateful and they really soaked in the country life. Thank you to our super staff for once again taking time from their families to ensure our children have a diverse range of experiences. The smiles around the camp were well worth the hours of organisation :)

We see our 3/4 children travel to the beach for camp this coming week. We hope you experience the same level of fun and joy and thank you to the adults attending this camp.

Tomorrow is a staff PL day. Our staff are focusing in on our staff touchstones which stem from our school horizon. Our touchstones represent the way we work together in unity and openness to ensure we are continually focused on school improvement and improving student outcomes. Thank you for your support in allowing us to have this day together.

Our St John's children receive the sacrament of Confirmation this month. I will be thinking of you all,  as you celebrate this important milestone. Our thoughts and prayers are not only with the children from our school, but all candidates from the parish who will receive this sacrament.  We pray for them and ask God to bless them at this significant moment in their lives. The students, assisted by their teachers, have been preparing throughout the year for this special occasion. We look forward to welcoming Fr Rene to  visit and meet with the Year 6’s next week to speak about the Sacrament of Confirmation with a focus on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

We will begin rescheduling events that have been shifted due to co-vid. Last year our Church hall opening and celebration of thanks was shifted therefore we will certainly be placing this back on the calendar to ensure our thanks and gratitude to our Parish is shown. We also thank Fr Rene and our parishioners for working along side St John's in the process of our school garden discussion and supporting our use of the garden whilst further discussions are held.

A warm and very happy WELCOME BACK to Bess and Chev from maternity leave. We were elated to see your faces back in school and our children were full of joy to see you both.

Have a great week and let's hope we keep this virus under control.

With love and thanks,

Gemma
