Year 10 Subject Selection and SET Plan Interviews

Year 10 students spent many ASH lessons last term completing career education programs that explored possible pathways for post-school education and employment, as well as the opportunities of study at Marist in senior school. These career lessons culminate in the completion of a SET Plan. Part of the SET Plan process is to select senior subjects which align with the post-schooling pathways student would like to undertake.

At the end of last term, parents of Year 10 students were emailed home instructions on how to book in for their son’s SET Plan interview. This interview will be held with a member of the staff SET Plan team and will discuss each student’s post-school plans, as well as their senior subject selections. Please ensure you have booked a time to be part of this important conversation via the details sent to you. If you need these instructions emailed again, please do not hesitate to contact rabiek@marash.qld.edu.au.

Students are reminded to bring their Pre-SET Plan forms with them to these interviews.

Year 8-10, 2022 Subject selection

At Marist College Ashgrove we understand the value of education in enabling our students to become knowledgeable, creative, thoughtful and morally responsible young men who engage actively as citizens of the world.  We recognise that students learn in different ways and as such, courses of study allow for a degree of individualisation, flexibility and choice.

During this term, all students in Years 7-9 will meet with their Head of House to discuss subject selections for 2022.  The teaching staff have prepared Subject Selection handbooks relevant to each year group that will assist you and your son in making the most appropriate selections.  These were made available on Friday 16 July.  When discussing subjects with your son, it is important to know that subjects studied now can influence subjects that may be studied in senior school.  Boys will need to demonstrate a satisfactory standard of achievement and therefore it is imperative that when selecting subjects’ boys should base this on:

  • Areas of interest/enjoyment
  • Academic success to date
  • Alignment with long term goals

Information includes:

  • Students moving into Year 8 and 9 in 2022 have received course guides and subject selection forms via email. These, along with subject-specific videos, are available on the College Moodle page. Please use these resources as a guide for subject selection.
  • Students moving into Year 10 in 2022. Thank you to those parents who attended the information night either in-person or via live stream on Monday night. This event, coupled with the course guides and subject-specific videos (available on Moodle) will provide the information needed for Year 10 subject selection.

When your son/s receive an email from their Head of House for their subject selection interviews, please ensure that they are prepared by bringing their subject selection form with them to these interviews.

If you have any questions about subject selection, please do not hesitate to contact the relevant Curriculum Leader, Mrs Roxanne Rosenberg, Mr Adam Knight or Ms Jen Smeed.

Year 8-10 Semester 2 subject changes

As we embark on a new semester, students in Years 8-10 may be changing their elective subjects. Students chose these subjects last year during the subject selection process. If your son would like to change their elective, please encourage them to see their Head of House as soon as possible. Subject changes for students in Years 8-10 will close at the end of Week 2 (Friday 23 July).
