Prayers

We pray for those called home to heaven, especially

  • Sharon Gillett (wife of Brett - Head of Gilroy House and mother to Austin and Isaac)
  • Jack Laracy OB 1953
  • Alison Barlow’s (staff member) father in law
  • Harry Vecellio’s (6G) grandfather

We pray for all in our community who are sick

  • Anntoinette Restell’s (staff member) father in law Colin who is unwell.

May our loving God, with Mary and Champagnat, walk with all members of the Marist family. Amen.

Term 3 Community Mass Schedule

Please note there is no Mass on Wednesday 11 August due to the EKKA public holiday.

The students and staff will celebrate the Mass for the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Champagnat Centre on Tuesday 10 August.

Year 12 Retreat

Week 1 of term saw all Year 12 students heading off to a retreat at five different sites within a two-hour drive of the College. The boys were supported by 25 Marist staff for the three-day event.

Retreat 2021 was very well received by our young men. They were very respectful of the retreat process, and its demand for open and listening minds and hearts.

Retreat involves both large group input and small group discussion and sharing, together with plenty of recreational time for boys to enjoy the company of others in an unstructured environment.

From the point of view of staff, it became obvious that this year’s Senior cohort are young men of empathy, gentleness and openness, and for these qualities, so much in evidence, the staff are very grateful.

The College would like to thank Priests local to the areas in which retreats are held for their very generous support of the retreat in saying Mass for us on Thursday evening.

The 2021 Retreat theme “Lord, behind and before you encircle me and rest your hand upon me…….”(Psalm 139) we hope and pray came to fruition for the young men of 2021 and that it continues well after the boys have left the kind embrace of Marist College.

Reflection

“The human heart is exquisitely fragile. Our judgments need to be gentle, our understanding deep, and our forgiveness wide.”  Ron Rolheiser

Great Book Swap Friday 30 July

The College will host a Great Book Swap this year on Friday 30 July to end our own Book week.

The Great Book Swap (an initiative of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation) is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for a gold coin donation.

Please bring in books for the swap!

Reading Opens Doors donate your loved books, and purchase something new to read.
