Library News
What been happening?
This term we have seen a lot of books go in and out. We have surveyed the students to see what additional books we can add to our school library. I had a fantastic response and have been able to meet some of the needs of our students. We have a wide range of books in the library to cater for all needs of our students. This year we have been able to create a Senior fiction collection for our Senior school but also these can be borrowed out too students who wish to push themselves with their understanding of more complex text and themes.
Library Club at lunchtime
This term we have been running library club Monday, Wednesday and Fridays open to all students. This has been a great opportunity for students to get together and play board games, Minecraft online, card games as well.
Returning books.
There are quite a high number of books overdue this term. I will be sending out to parents/carers an overdue invoice to pay for replacement costs. Over the holidays if you find your overdue book and it is returned at the start of term 3 you will not need to pay for the replacement cost of the book. It is really important that you take care of the books you borrow and return them in the 2 week period as students have reserved books and are keen to read. It is important to understand that a generous budget is spent on purchasing books that students have requested and we want to continue to add to the collection.
Literacy competition
We had over 30 students enter the Write4fun a national writing competition. They could write a short story or poem on anything. Our English Learning Specialist - Elise selected 5 students to represent our school. The students who were selected Shahad Al Haj Makki -7F, Hailey Bangan - 7F, Noraah Dhhumi - 7I, Ifra Khan - 7E and Lujain Malook - 7D all of these students are from year 7.
Overall there were 7500 entries from across the country from P-12. One of our students Noraah was selected as the winner of for Poetry section. She won $500 rebel sports voucher as well as a $500 cash prize and will get her story published in the winners section of the magazine.
Congratulations Noraah this is an amazing achievement for a year 7. We can't wait to see what you write next and watch your writing skills grow.
Minecraft club Year 7
This term on a Thursday lunchtime we had a Minecraft club for the year 7's. The House leaders in year 7 surveyed the students to see what they would like for a lunchtime club. It was very well received by the students as it was a space just for them during this break.
Next term Library club
Hopefully next term will be offering other clubs in the library space. We are surveying the students over the holidays to gain their interest in other activities that can be delivered in the library space.
