Staffing Update

I know that our school community greatly values the commitment and dedication of all members of our school staff team. As a courtesy, I would wish to bring the following staffing changes to the attention of our school families and trust that you will continue to uphold these staff members in your prayers as they take these important new steps in their lives.

  • Liz Hylton-Cummins – Mrs Hylton-Cummins has faithfully served NCS in her capacity as Canteen Manager for just over 3 years. We have been most grateful for her catering expertise that has been reflected in the wonderful canteen menu that has been made available to our students and staff. Mrs Hylton-Cummins will be concluding this role at our school as of 5 August. However, she will remain working in the food industry as she commences an exciting new business venture.
  • Leah Arthur – Mrs Arthur joined our school staff team in 2016 as a Secondary teacher. In particular, she has capably delivered classes in the areas of Science and Geography. Mrs Arthur also has an exciting new career opportunity ahead that will see her departing our school on 2 September. Mrs Arthur has accepted a position at Trinity Grammar’s Huskisson Campus where her teaching skills will be greatly appreciated.
  • Mrs Brinlee Baker – Mrs Baker is a valued member of our Primary teaching team. She recently shared with staff the exciting news of her pregnancy. Mrs Baker has informed us that she will be taking maternity leave for the duration of next year. The good news for our school community is that we can look forward to Mrs Baker returning to us at the conclusion of her time of maternity leave.

E-Cigarettes

At Nowra Christian School, we recognise that the task of being a parent/carer is a demanding one as you set out to assist your children to navigate their way safely through an increasingly complex world. We understand that there are many sensitive topics that can prove to be rather difficult to discuss with your children. This was one reason why we recently invited Melinda Tankard-Reist and Daniel Principe to speak with our students about the dangers of pornography and sexual exploitation.

Another activity that can prove to be very seductive for young people today is related to the use of E-cigarettes and is commonly referred to as ‘vaping’. However, medical experts agree that this is an unhealthy pursuit for young people to engage in and parents are encouraged to speak frankly with their children about the dangers of this activity. In an endeavour to assist our NCS parents and carers to engage in productive conversations on this topic, we have included the following information pamphlet from the Cancer Council. The Cancer Council are considered to be experts in this field and we trust that the information provided here may be of assistance to you, should you wish to discuss this important topic with your children.

COVID-19 Test Register Form

It is important that we continue to be vigilant in ensuring that staff and students do not attend school or work if they are unwell.  Please note the following:

  • Students absent or sent home due to flu-like symptoms need to be tested for COVID-19.
  • Staff and students must not return to school or work until they receive a negative COVID-19 result and are symptom-free.
  • Staff and students who have had a COVID-19 test must complete the COVID-19 Test Register before returning to school. This form will require you to upload a screenshot of the test results.
  • If the student or staff member is still displaying ongoing symptoms that are typical of a condition such as seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), they can provide a medical certificate from their GP to continue to attend school.
