6th Annual Tour de Worrigee

Late last term, Year 8 enjoyed their 'Tour de Worrigee/ Journée Française' (French day)!

As in previous years, they spent 2 periods careening around the tracks on scooters, trying to out-do each other in the number of laps per team.Periods 3-4 were calmer, with each student cooking a croque-monsieur, finding out about the Eiffel Tower, making models and constructing jigsaws.Periods 5-6 were spent watching the movie, 'The Walk', where a French acrobat attempts to traverse the gap between the twin towers in New York (French commentary with English subtitles). Here are some of the comments from participants:

The Tour de Worrigee was my favourite part of French this term. It was great learning about the different cycling teams. Joseph

Learning about Food Equity at NCS

By Hannah S

This week in Years 9 & 10 Food Tech, we participated in cooking inequitable pancakes, where we all followed the same recipe, but had different toppings.

Each of us picked a piece of paper out of a bag that had a topping of some sort, all completely random. The options ranged from ice cream, m&m’s, a flake and chocolate syrup altogether all the way down to a plain pancake with nothing on it at all.

The student who received a plain pancake expressed his disappointment, saying ‘I wish to cry now’ as he watched Jonah demolish his creation, being the most fortunate in the class. ‘They tasted fabulous. I feel marvellous,’ Jonah said.

Overall, it was a great experience and opportunity to realise how unfair the world really is in relation to distribution, and although we are extremely fortunate in being able to enjoy home made food together, nothing is fair. Personally, I felt encouraged and more grateful for what I have in this moment, rather than being envious of what I could have, or what the people around me are lucky enough to receive.

Stage 2 Drama Club

Throughout Term 2, students in Stage 2 had the opportunity to join a lunchtime Drama Club.  Some play excerpts were presented during the Stage 2 assembly in Week 7 – many other plays were presented for parents and class members in Week 10.

Some students joined late in the term after seeing and hearing about the fun their classmates were having. Let’s hear from some of the students!

Drama Club is a great acting experience! I loved playing my part and practicing my lines. Dress rehearsals were absolutely my favourite part and I loved performing at the Drama Club assembly. You make new friends with the people who are in your group.  Sarah M

I like Drama Club because I can wear different costumes and pretend to be someone else.  I get to make new friends and learn new things.  Drama Club helps me perform on stage and speak in front of big crowds.  Drama Club is so awesome – it’s the best!   Olivia Mc

Drama Club is really fun.  It makes you feel happy and proud.  Alexis F

I love Drama Club.  It is so fun to learn lines and wear cool costumes.  It’s the best!  Zoe C

Drama Club was fun!  I got to be a baker in “The Sleepy Bear” play.  It was amazing.  I loved the clapping hands of the audience – it made me feel proud of myself and my friends. Abby D

A huge “Thankyou” to Mrs Ellery and her Year 10 Drama students who coached the Stage 2 students.

Herbert   - Lilly D, Corinne C

Peter Pan - Abi H, Kayleigh W, Amelia B

Sleepy Bear - Caitie S, Eden R, Issy C

It Could be Worse - Beth W, Courtney L

Shrek - Josie G, Lili M

You all did a great job and gave the students a wonderful opportunity. They are sure to have many happy memories.

Final Years 7-12 Assembly for Term 2

For our final assembly for Term 2, we were entertained by Stage 5 drama students with 'Macbeth in 10 minutes' - don't tell the English teachers, but I preferred this version!

Successful CIS (Combined Independent Schools) cross country runners, Joel H and Emily Mc were awarded medallions for their efforts at Sydney Motor Sport Park (formerly Eastern Creek). In the 13 years category Joel came second and Emily came third. Congratulations on an amazing effort!

Pastor Ryan Heard shared with us the seriousness of our spiritual situation: The Old Testament shows us that in our own strength we are under God's judgement. So God took radical action! Jesus, God himself, came to be our rescuer. This is such good news why everyone needs to hear and respond to Him.
