From the Principal

Welcome to all members of the St Augustine’s Community. As we commence our new school year, we keep those families across Australia that have been impacted by bushfires in WA and COVID-19, in our thoughts and prayers.
A new start to any school year always brings a range of emotions. The emotions of our new Foundation students and their families will for many, remain in their hearts forever. The sparkle in their eyes and the nervousness that goes with it is such a special moment. I understand that commencing formal education is not just a momentous occasion for the child, their families also share many mixed feelings. It was evident that our families were extremely proud of their children, however there was certainly a mixture of relieved, joyous and sad faces.
Not only is St Augustine’s College a new destination for our Foundation students, we need to acknowledge that we have also witnessed the arrival of new students from Years 1-12. We welcome these new students and families to our College and trust their experience will be of connection and opportunities.
It is also with great excitement that we welcome 25 new staff to our College in 2021. We trust that their experience will be one of joy and professional fulfilment. We welcome the following:

This morning at our first College assembly we introduced our theme for 2021. ‘Created in God’s Image’ is a theme that we hope will raise many questions about God for our community. It is good to ask questions and it is good to ask questions that have no apparent answer. Part of our faith is about becoming comfortable with the mystery. Throughout the year we will ask our community to consider Who is God for you? What do you think God is like? Where did you see God today? Sometimes it can be tricky to talk about God because we can’t seem to find the words, but it is really important to try. God never abandons those who doubt or ask questions in their search for meaning.
As a College, we will continue to strive for success and set a high standard for ourselves and one another. May 2021 be a year of deep learning and most importantly, as our vision statement suggests, ‘we seek to educate the whole person as a contributing member of the human community in Christ'.
Lastly, I would like to thank all staff, students and families that have made the start to 2021 so successful. Coronavirus will continue to dictate the way in which we navigate the school year, however, I am confident that in the event of further intervention, we will be ready to respond in the same professional manner as we did in 2020.
I wish everyone a great 2021 and look forward to sharing many special experiences together.
