A Fresh Start to the Year

With a new school year we have the opportunity for a fresh start to our borrowing from the library.  It has been lovely to see so many Foundation to Year 2 students with library bags already in their first week. If you are not sure which day your child’s library day is, check in with us or their class teacher.

Children love reading with adults and having adults read to them. We would love to hear about how your children enjoy their books with you.

We have been helping our Years 3 and 4 students collect books for their reading boxes in class as well as their reading for enjoyment books to take home.

Some students still had books out at the end of 2020 and we suggested they take the holidays to try to find the missing items. Given the time students spent away from school in 2020, many couldn’t remember what they had borrowed in Term 1. It has been amazing to see how many have returned now in this first week.

Scholastic Book Club

The best gift any parent can give a child is the love of books and the joy and benefits of independent reading for fun. Children who read at home, or are read to, have a head start on reading success.

Numerous studies have found that reading is a key factor in a child’s lifelong success. Scholastic Book Club is found in 94% of primary schools across Australia. When Book Club comes out (twice a term) there is a fun and easy way to bring books into your home. You’ll find award winning books and bestsellers as well as old and new favourites. We recommend them because the books span a wide range of children’s reading levels and interests and are not too expensive (some as little as $2.00). Scholastic gives back 20% of the orders to schools to buy resources. It is easy to order either online through Book Club LOOP, using the LOOP app or an order form with money to the College Office. Children who choose what they read will be more likely to enjoy what they read.
