School Uniform

The Concord  School uniform aims to:

  • Foster a sense of community and belonging and encourages students to develop pride in their appearance
  • Support Concord School’s commitment to ensuring that our students feel equal and are dressed safely and appropriately for school activities
  • Reduce student competition on the basis of clothing
  • Enhance the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community

The School Council has developed a dress code that we believe provides a range of choices for students and is cost effective for families. Our uniform was introduced nearly 9 years ago, one of the key reasons was to have our students dress the same as most secondary school students in the area. Our students are clearly proud of how they look and this contributes to a positive attitude about school.

Since returning to school this term, with retailers closed and parents not easily able come on site we eased our expectations around wearing the correct uniform. However we are raising the standards again.

The guidelines for the wearing of the school uniform are:

  • School uniform is compulsory and must be worn in the correct manner at all times.
  • The Concord School Primary uniform must be worn by all students in the Primary area of the school.
  • The Concord School Secondary uniform must be worn by all students in the Secondary area of the school.
  • School uniform for all students will be sold through the school uniform shop.
  • There will be provision for the supply of clean second-hand uniforms in good condition (subject to availability).
  • Only black school caps and hats may be worn.
  • Staff and students from the Primary School are expected to wear hats while outside during terms 1 and 4.  Staff and students from the Secondary School are strongly encouraged to wear hats while outside during terms 1 and 4.  Sun protective hats are available for purchase from the Concord School uniform shop.
  • Shoes are not specified items of school uniform in the Primary area but students are encouraged to wear appropriate footwear.  High heeled shoes, open-toed sandals/shoes and thongs are not permitted for safety reasons.
  • Students in the Secondary area must wear black school shoes or plain all black runners or t-bar shoes.
  • For the Secondary uniform, there is no prescribed summer or winter uniform however there is both a formal and a sport uniform. The sport uniform is only to be worn on days that the student is timetabled for sport or PE or at other times as directed by the Team Leader.
  • The spray jacket is the only item that can be worn with both the formal and sport uniforms. It can only be worn with the formal uniform when on top of the jumper.
  • Extreme hair colours (for example, green, pink or purple rinses) and/or extreme hairstyles (for example, mo-hawks) are not permitted.
  • Excessive or expensive jewelry is not permitted. Students may wear stud earrings.
  • Minimal use of cosmetics and pale coloured nail polish is permitted.
  • Parents/carers will be requested to send a note of explanation to the school if students are not in school uniform.
  • Requests for exemption to these requirements should be made by parent/carers to the Assistant Principal at whose discretion exemptions from this policy will be granted.
  • Concord School will provide support for parents/carers who have difficulty meeting the cost for uniform items, this may include applying to the State School’s Relief Fund for financial support for families.
