Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the boys and their families in the first week of Term 1. If you see me around the school or at sport on the weekend please feel free to introduce yourself. The sense of community and family spirit is what makes Marist so special and I look forward to continuing to build upon that in the Primary School. If you would like to meet with me, please feel free to e-mail me at beattyl@marash.qld.edu.au to set up a time.

There is no doubt you would have had some very tired boys at the end of last week. However, I hope that the tiredness was packaged with a feeling of refreshment about how much they have enjoyed being back at Marist or stories of excitement about their new school.

Last Friday we held our Commencement Liturgy for Years 5 and 6 in the College Chapel. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together in prayer as we embark on the year together. Mr McMahon (Head of Mission) gave the boys a tour of the Chapel and reflected on the parable of the Good Samaritan. Mr Newman (Head of College) addressed the boys and challenged them to make the most of the year ahead and emphasised the importance of putting their full efforts into their studies.

The boys were reminded that the College Chapel is their chapel, and will be for the rest of their lives. Our liturgy concluded with the Sub Tuum, a special song devoted to Mary, that is embedded into our Marist identity. The lyrics are contained on the front of this newsletter.

Parent Information Evenings

You would have received an invitation last Friday for this week’s parent information evenings. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we are only able to accommodate one parent/guardian for each student.

  • Year 5 – Wednesday 3 February 6:15pm. Followed by Parent Welcome Function in the Science Centre
  • Year 6 (Blue, Gold, White, Red) – Thursday 4 February 6:15pm
  • Year 6 (Violet) – Monday 8 February 6:15pm
  • College Events

There are a number of upcoming events at the College that unfortunately, due to restrictions, parents will not be able to attend. This includes the College Welcome Assembly, Academic Award Assembly and Inaugural Mass. However, we are fortunate that these events will be live-streamed by the College at https://www.marash.qld.edu.au/livestream/.

ASH Buddies

Our Year 5 boys will meet their ASHBuddies this week.  This will be the start of a yearlong connection between the Year 5 and Year 6 students. This is also a great opportunity for our Year 6 boys to step up as leaders of our Primary School.

Yesterday, Mr Connolly spoke to all of Year 5 in the Draney Theatre and shared with them some of the Marist story, our expectations of them all and our goals for the year ahead. I hope all the boys continue to adapt to the new environment they find themselves in since joining us last week.

AIC Sport

Last weekend saw a large majority of Primary students represent the College in swimming, cricket and AFL for the first time this year. A particular congratulations to the students who made their debut in the blue and gold. We wish them well and know that they will continue to represent the College with pride this coming weekend. Please continue to check the College App for any sport information or updates.
