Mr James Bryant

Introducing our new Stage 3 Lime teacher............
Mr James Bryant,
We offer a very warm welcome to Mr James Bryant as our classroom teacher for Stage 3 Lime.
Where did you complete high school?
I attended school at Woodburn Central School up to year 10. I then did a bricklaying apprenticeship and worked at a bricklayer for 20 years. I did a Tertiary Preparation course at Wollongbar TAFE as a 36 year-old. The TP is sort of adult HSC and on completion you gain a University entrance score.
What was your favourite subject at school?
As a kid I enjoyed Science, especially learning about dinosaurs, planets and animals. As an adult at TAFE I enjoyed studies in Literacy and Calculus, but I would need a refresher course in Calculus these days.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I began coaching junior league teams in my 20’s and enjoyed being an important person in kids lives. After being a bricklayer for so long I was keen for a change, I decided that being a teacher would be even more enjoyable.
Where was your first teaching job?
Alma Public School in Broken Hill in 2006, It was a temporary position and after that I went to the Northern territory for 11 years working across some of the most remote indigenous community schools in Australia.
What was something memorable about one of your teachers from school?
I don’t think I ever had a favourite teacher, but I did like that most of them really did care and were good people. I didn’t always appreciate it then but I do now.
What is your favourite sport/hobby?
I played Rugby League from the age of 7 for most years until I was 31, I have also coached a few teams as well.
What is your favourite type of music?
80’s and 90’s pop/rock. My favourites were the Eagles, Dire Straights, Cold Chisel, AC/DC etc. I have everything the Foo Fighters have done these days.
What is your favourite food?
Thai green curries, combination chow mein, baked dinners.......... I like many types of food.
If you could go on a holiday anywhere, where would you go and why?
I don’t really have the ‘travel-bug’ like many people. However I would enjoy taking a long trip through Europe and Asia if it ever happened.
What do you like best about Guyra Central School?
Just the people, the students and teachers have been pleasant, outgoing and helpful.
