Metal Work & Wood Work
Excursion to Seymour Alternate Farm Expo
On Friday the 16th of February, Mr Powell and Mr Mitchell took 33 students to the Seymour Alternate Farming Expo. Leaving Cobram at 7.30am and returning at 4.00pm gave the students plenty of time to look around the Expo and gather ideas that they could use when producing projects in the metal and wood technology areas. The Year 11 & 12 students have a big focus on reclaimed materials (RECYCLING) and turning old things into new items. A number of sites had CNC metal and wood items for sale, providing great sources of inspiration. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is the automation of machine tools by means of computers executing pre-programmed sequences of machine control commands. This is in contrast to machines that are manually controlled like the ones we have at school. It is important that our students see what the local industries are using and that they understand what is required when they depart our school to start their own life in the engineering and building trades.
Year 11 student, Kyle, brought a fishing lure that is the newest technology in this field according to site holder. Kyle put the lure to the test on the weekend and found himself reeling in a 117cm cod.
What a ripper, l think you’d agree!
