Home PE Learning

Wow, what a week it has been again for adjusting to home learning and especially in Physical Education. The PE tasks that are being sent can be done at any time and if students have not had a chance to do last week’s activity, please feel free to have a go and send in photos / videos of their chalk creations or soccer skills as well as anyone wanting to have a go at any of the Yoga poses! There are still a few students who have not logged into their Google Classroom page for the Specialists, so could you please make sure that your child has logged into that so we can view their work and give them feedback.

Thank you to all the students who have been sending in their videos and also those that have commented on how they are doing their fitness workouts online. Each week there are suggested links to the different fitness workouts which can be done in either brain breaks or later in the day for a stretch. There is also a Yoga link to Cosmic Kids which is good for stretching and relaxing. Students were sent a movie of the different Soccer skills that the could try. Some students have even added their own skill of trying to headbutt the ball , thanks for your great videos.  Next week we are working on the same skills as I know that there were some challenging skills of the high knee kicks and toe taps to have a go at. Could students please keep their videos / movies to under 1 minute as the files become too large and I can’t open them.

Thankyou everyone for keeping active during these different times. Don’t forget that students can also upload images of anything else they are doing to stay fit, either BMX riding, running with the dog, skipping, riding a scooter, playing with a frisbee, etc.

Thank you from Mrs Yorke to all those who have been uploading photos and comments about what they have been doing during Home Learning to stay active and also to those who have logged on in the afternoons for the Live Workouts.

Bahasa Indonesia – Term 2, 2020

Selamat Datang to week 3 everyone!

I hope that you are all well and are finding the little things in every day that make you smile. I am really enjoying being a part of Google Chats in the mornings. They fill my bucket right up to the brim! So, thank you to those classes I have already seen, and those I will see soon!

I have been so impressed by the work I have seen coming in to me by email and Google Classroom, especially given that Indonesian is optional for At Home Learning. For every student who has shared their learning with me – thank you. I really enjoy seeing your work.

SURPRISE!

The Global Education Captains, Mariam and Sapphy and I are working on a big surprise for the Juniors – so keep posted! We are very excited!

VICTORIAN PRIMARY SCHOOL INDONESIAN WRITING COMPETITION – TERM 2, 2020

The Victorian Indonesian Language Teachers Association (VILTA) is supporting a very exciting writing competition for Indonesian language learners. There are different categories depending on what year level you are in:

Junior – Poster

Middle - Poster or Picture Book

Senior - Diary or Short Story

The due date to me will be Thursday 18th of June, and I will send one entry per category to VILTA for judging. The state wide winner of each category will receive a prize to the value of $30.

I will post all of the information in your Google classrooms, and any students who would like to enter may do so. Please don’t hesitate to ask me questions if you need to.

INDONESIAN NEWS

As Australians are starting to breathe very hesitant, and non-isolation breaking, sighs of relief as our COVID-19 numbers appear to be consistently heading in the right direction, we need to spare a thought for our many closest neighbours. It is difficult to know what the actual rates of infection are in the world’s largest archipelago. Indonesia’s population is over 270 million, living on 6000 of their islands.

This is also a very special time for over 87% of Indonesian people. Muslims are currently observing Ramadan - we also have some CHPS families observing Ramadan at this time. Ramadan started on April 23rd and is due to end on Eid Ul Fitr on May 23rd or 24th, with the official sighting of the new moon. It is usually identified as a period of fasting during daylight hours for those participating. It is also a time for prayer, donating to charity and thinking of those less fortunate than ourselves.

We are close neighbours, and many of us have enjoyed fun family times spent in sunny Bali (my family included), using our awesome Bahasa Indonesia skills. At times like these we need to maintain our empathy and connections, remembering to think of those less fortunate than ourselves in the spirit of Ramadan.  I have been maintaining contact with my host family in Bengkulu, Sumatra; keeping in touch with teachers I know in Malaysia; and also reading the Indonesian news.

So, in order to maintain our empathy and connections, let’s all aim to “light someone up” with a special interaction. Somehow, make a positive connection and fill the bucket of someone special.  It could be grandma, a cousin or a friend. I wonder how creative we could get with our connections!
