Year 10 Work Experience

Year 10 are participating in work experience from Monday 24 to Friday 28 June. Students are to make contact with employers and organise their week.

Innovation Nation

Foundation of Young Australian – a small group of year 10 students have received initial funding to “start up” their social entrepreneurial program “This Is US’ from City Australia.  The students developed a business plan for which they were granted an initial $1,000 to further develop the project.

The project aims to highlight discrimination and looks at the journey that young people have endured. “This is Us”  will see teenagers telling their story – becoming human books and relaying snippets of their lives and the effects that discrimination of all kinds has on an each individual.  It is all about “telling their stories and ensuring that they are all alone”

The project intends to impact communities by spreading awareness about the importance of societal inclusion and embracing disparate identities.

The students come from varied backgrounds including being refugees and they are innately aware of discrimination on many levels and the associated mental health issues that arise for young people.

The team wants to launch a community-wide cultural program in which various ethnic and cultural groups can register to perform talents and talks on-stage. Additionally, a film contest will be held open to anyone, with the theme highlighting the importance of societal inclusion in communities.

The group will be receiving business and marketing coaching form two Citi Australia employees and have the opportunity to pitch for additional funding when they present their project – as in a “Shark Tank” format on Thursday 28 June.  Watch this space and we will let you know how they go and when they will be running their performances.

Students in the project are – Naveed, Hiradaya, Evan, Alex, Nandika and Andrew
