Principal Report

A message from the Principal
Ms Nerina Pretlove
At Evans, we want students to create their own success stories. That happens when they take responsibility for their learning and decision making. Our goal is to provide students with a rich learning environment that challenges, supports and facilitates a desire to succeed across a wide range of opportunities.
As you read through this newsletter, you will see some of this in action. We are in the process of evaluating our teaching and wellbeing programs as we start planning for 2020. Our staff is attending a range of professional learning opportunities to bring cutting edge educational thinking to our school so that we can provide students with a diverse and inclusive curriculum that is responsive to their needs.
To this end, we will be challenging our Year 7 students to be partners in the reporting process with them reflecting on their progress and linking that to future growth. They will write their comments with their teachers and then we will have three way conversations about how we can support them in creating their future successes at our Futurist Evenings.
The winter days have just arrived and I remind you that our uniform shop is open Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8.00am and online orders can be made at the link below. They will be delivered to the school shop and students may pick them up on the Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school. www.gtschool.com.au/index.php/Home/Index/goods_list/cate_id/69.html
Those winter temperatures make it tempting to stay in bed a little longer meaning missed buses and lateness to class in the morning. If a student is late to school by 15 minutes each day because they have caught a later bus, over a year they will have lost 50 hours of learning time. That is the same as losing ¼ of a subject over the 40 weeks. Likewise, 30 minutes lateness will quickly add up to 100 hours over the year or the equivalent of ½ a subject of lost time. Use your mobile phone for good and set the alarm and place it close enough that you can still hear it but far enough away that you have to get out of bed to turn it off.
Your P & C extends a warm invitation to the next meeting held in the Professional Learning Space in the Library on Tuesday 25 June at 11 am. We have moved to an alternate day and evening (6.00pm) meeting schedule which occurs on the last Tuesday of the month during school terms. Please ring the school on 9621 3622 for any enquiries.
