NAPLAN 2019

In May this year students in Year 3 and 5 sat the NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) assessments.

NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life.

NAPLAN is made up of tests in the four areas (or ‘domains’) of:

  • reading
  • writing
  • language conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
  • numeracy

Each year level is reported against six bands.

  • Year 3 student reports show bands 1–6. The national minimum standard is band 2.
  • Year 5 student reports show bands 3–8. The national minimum standard is band 4

Reports on individual student performance for 2019 were provided to all students and parents/carers involved this month.

I am pleased to advise that our results across all domains are very strong, well above state and national results. Congratulations to all students that took part.

NAPLAN Online

Education ministers have agreed that all schools will gradually transition from the current paper-based tests to the computer-based assessments, with the aim for all schools to undertake NAPLAN Online by 2021. In 2019 Rangeview Primary School conducted paper-based tests and it is yet to be confirmed if we will be transitioned to the online tests next year. I will advise when further information is provided.
