Art Competition

We’re calling it the ‘Unexpected Silver Lining’ Art Competition. Students must simply submit a piece of art depicting something positive that has emerged for them during these very difficult times. It may be something as unassuming as learning how to bake a cake, or perhaps it’s having mum and dad at home all the time!

All details (including how to enter) are in the attached Entry Form.

Closing date is Monday 1 June, 2020

A Guide to Making Paper Beads

Paper beads are simple to make, and you can create beautiful and unusual beads. The basic technique can be adapted in many ways to achieve different effects. This is also an excellent way to use up odds and ends of the paper. Even the most unpromising looking paper can make beautiful beads

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper: leftover magazines, scrapbook paper, junk mail or newspapers
  • Scissors, ruler
  • Craft adhesive, any adhesive suitable for the paper will work well
  • Thin knitting needle
  • Diluted PVA glue to seal the beads (optional)
  • Wire

Cut you paper in your desired shape and length (see examples below)

Glue the back of the paper and carefully roll the bead. Use a thin knitting needle to roll the bead around. This helps to give a consistent result.

Make sure the end of the paper is firmly attached, add an extra dab of glue if required. Leave the beads to one side to dry. You can seal your paper beads with a coat of diluted PVA glue. This adds strength and gives the paper beads a slight gloss. They could also be finished with a coat of clear varnish.
