Out and About the School

Book Week and Grandparents Day

This year we are combining Book Week with Grandparents Day.

On Monday 19 August there will be a special event in the Hall starting at 10.00 am. Each class will make a presentation on the book they have been reading in class.

At 11.00 am, grandparents and/or parents are welcome to stay for morning tea (we will have a special morning tea set up for guests. Students will bring their own morning tea), and participate in the sharing of favourite stories and books. Grandparents are encouraged to bring along a favourite story.

The book  and costume focus for each grade is as follows:

Kindergarten: Noni the Pony Rescues a Joey

Kinder students may choose to wear any of the following:

  • Blue and/or red clothing (our vowel and consonant Spelling Stars colours, which give us the "power" to become great readers)
  • Australian animal dress-ups or colours (grey, brown, black)

These clothes are to be worn to school on the day. For the special assembly presentation at 10am, your child will be wearing an Australian animal mask which we are creating together at school.

Year 1: The Dress Up Box

Year 1 are to wear their favorite dress-up outfit. If you have any dress-ups at home we encourage you to use them as they are part of your home. There is no need to buy anything new.

Year 2: Rainbow Bear

Yr 2 can wear rainbow coloured clothes, bear ears or masks. They may even choose to draw patterns on white T-Shirts or tights like the bear in the story. We encourage students to check that their costumes are easy to walk and sit in.

Year 3: Heads and Tails: Insects

Yr 3 are asked to dress as themselves, highlighting 3 things that make them unique- eg. you are good at soccer, you love cats, you love singing.

Year 4: Grandma Z

Yr 4 will dress as Grandparents.

Year 5: The all new must have Orange 430

Yr 5 are encouraged to wear:

  • Orange or make an orange accessory (fascinator, pom-poms etc)
  • Make a car/rocket/tower etc out of cardboard and wear/carry it
  • re-purpose a gimmicky gadget they have bought in the past (fidget spinner, Coles Little Shop Toys etc) into something new or wearable.
  • Get together with a friend and orgnaise a "then" versus "now" toy. Eg kite/quad copter, push along car/remote control car etc.

Year 6: Cicada

Yr 6 are to dress as professional office workers and business men/women (jacket, tie, briefcase, suit etc)

School Fees

School Fee Statements have been emailed out. Fees are due by 31 August. Please contact Jeni in the office if there are any issues with your payments.

Medication

A reminder that students are not permitted to carry any medication in their bags. If your child requires medication, it must be held at the office. The medication needs to be in its' original packaging along with dispensing instructions. This is for the safety of all students.

Absent Students

If your child is absent from school, the Compass system automatically sends out an SMS AND an email to notify you if your child is not at school. You can no longer reply by text/SMS. You must either ring the office with an explanation of your child being absent or use the email link (found in the email and SMS) to reply. You do not need to reply to both the text and the email, one or the other is sufficient.

Reminders will be sent each week for unexplained absences. Please respond asap so we do not have to spend time following this up. If you fail to respond, your child will remain an "unexplained absence" which will be recorded on their official record of attendance.

If your child arrives to school after 8.50 am, they MUST be signed in at the office. If you do not sign your child in, they will remain on the roll as an "Unjustified partial absence".

Thank you for your patience while the new system is implemented.

CANTEEN

A massive thank you to the wonderful parents who helped me on the BBQ at the Athletics Carnival. It was a massive day and I could not have done it without your help and support.
