From the Primary Principal Team

Hello to our Primary Lakes Families,

As we are coming to the end of 2021 and building for a successful 2022, l just wanted to thank you for your support throughout the year. Even with several interruptions to learning this year, we have seen significant gains across our school both in individual students and larger cohorts. This is due to the work you are doing at home with your children and the hard-working staff here at The Lakes. That strong home and school relationship is as important as ever with what we have faced across the past 2 years. Thank you for your support.

GETTING READY FOR 2022

We are now well and truly in the final push to the end of the school year. The great news is that with everything that has happened this year, we are still on track with our planning and organisation and can look forward with confidence to a smooth start in 2022. The next steps for our students moving into 2022 is our whole school transition program as followed:

Thursday 16th December – this is where we step into our time machine and turn our whole school into 2022. From 10:00am – 11:00am all students will be spending time in their 2022 classroom with their 2022 teacher. (Note: This is subject to availability of some of our new staff that will be joining our team in 2022). This can often be a very anxious and nervous time for our students and families. Much of this work goes on behind the scenes, but even this week our staff have met together to talk about their current students’ individual needs with the teacher for next year. This helps to ensure that all the things we have learnt this year about our students can be effectively passed on. Most importantly it also means that our teachers and staff can start to build those connections that are so important to learning from the very first day. Another big part of what we do at The Lakes is to model a growth mindset, positive thinking and embracing the challenge of change. Your support in this is also critical during this transition period each year.

2022 YEAR LEVEL STRUCTURE

Please find below our 2022 year level structure. We continue to place a great emphasis on smaller class sizes where possible to maximise student learning and extend or support students where needed. On top of the class structure is the extra support students may receive through tutorial time, extra teacher time to make smaller literacy groups in different year levels and integration support for our PSD funded students. Student needs will continue to be at the forefront of everything we do.

2022 UNIFORM

Please note that we will be going back to our strict uniform policy at the start of 2022. We understand that due to ongoing nature of lockdowns, the growth of our students to get uniform that fitted them and the restricted access to the uniform shop, meant that families did their best to get students to school in uniform. Please note, that at the start of the 2022 school year, students will need to be in correct uniform including all black shoes and that shorts, polos and jumpers need to have the Lakes logo. If families need support around this, please let us know and we will try to help our families where possible. We want our students to wear our uniform with pride and know that they belong to our school.

END OF YEAR ARRANGEMENTS 2021

Semester 2 reports will be sent out via Sentral on Monday 13th December. Our end of school assembly for this year will be held on Wednesday 15th December starting at 11.30am on our Primary Campus. Due to Covid19 regulations, parents of awards winners only have been invited to attend this assembly. Parents will need to be double vaccinated with proof of this needed upon entry onto school grounds on the day. Also at this assembly, we will be saying farewell as a whole school to our Year 6s and celebrating our wonderful students here at The Lakes. We will also be acknowledging and thanking our staff members who are leaving our school. Please note that our 2022 Student Leadership group will be announced at our first assembly on Friday 4th February 2022.

On Thursday 16th and Friday 17th December (last 2 days of the school year), we will be spending time moving furniture, packing up and also getting our classrooms ready for 2022. There are a number of teachers moving areas or classrooms across the school so it will be a busy few days. To assist with this process, we are letting you know that on this day, teachers may split or combine classes and offer students a range of activities such as art and craft, cooperative games, movies, and outdoor games. Students will be dismissed directly from allocated gates at 1.15pm on the last day of school, Friday 17th December. We are hoping to welcome parents back in the school yard at the start of 2022. More information about 2022 arrangements will be sent out to our parents at the start of the school year.
