Eclipse House News

What a busy start to the term it has been. We are four weeks in and already nearing the middle of Term Four. I can’t believe how fast it is going and just how busy the term has been thus far.

Exciting Changes

Over the holidays we were excited to finally get the pool table repaired. The boys had voted on the new felt colour and decided on purple. Whilst I was hesitant, it looks spectacular in our recreation area of Eclipse. The boys have appreciated the repairs to the table and the games of pool have never been more popular. Additionally, the holidays saw the addition of a wonderful new modular lounge for the dining and lounging area. The lounge is considerably larger than the previous and we moved the other one into the recreation area. This allows for many more boys to relax around the house. This week has seen the addition of another television into the Rec area with the Year Nine X-box being installed. This allows for two separate gaming areas for the boys.

Last term the students mentioned that they were having trouble with mobile phone reception in the bedrooms of Eclipse. We had mobile phone boosters installed during the holidays and this has made an improvement to reception. It is not yet perfect, but we are working on this.

Graduation

I felt a great sense of pride for all the Year Twelve students on Friday 22 October, as they graduated. Many of these young people have been boarding for half of their schooling and have been at GSG for five or six years. All of them, whether they have been here for six years or five months, should be so proud of all the hard work they have put in. It has truly been a pleasure working with these young men for the past two years and I am excited to see where life now takes them.

A few of the Year Twelves have remained in boarding while they study for their final exams. Good luck, this is what you have been working towards.

Year Nines

On Sunday 24 October, the Year Nine students from Anchorage made the move up to Eclipse. No doubt this was both daunting as well as exciting and all the Year Nine boys have settled well into Eclipse. They have enjoyed getting to know the house, the other boys and the new routines, playing countless hours of both pool and table tennis. They have been operating within the Year Ten routine, which involves greater IT access and a later bedtime and have adjusted well to the changes.

I have really enjoyed getting to know the Year Nine students, as they have settled into the house and I look forward to spending more time getting to know them and helping them with their transition into Senior School and Senior Boarding over the next few weeks.

As the weather improves, we are all looking forward to making the most of it, heading outside and enjoying the recreation offered.

Birthdays

A very happy birthday to three of our new Eclipse boys all in Year Nine.  Phillip Wiehl and Koby Hams both recently turned 15 and Joe Hawke will celebrate his 15th birthday this weekend.

When you are in town, please feel free to pop into the house for a chat and to share a tea or coffee. I look forward to seeing you and as always, please feel free to call, text or email me on 0448 125 919 or via brenton.rice@gsg.wa.edu.au anytime.
