Anchorage House News

Welcome

Welcome back to Term Four. We warmly welcomed new Yalari student Marcus Pigram from Broome to Year Nine in Week Two. Marcus had been schooling in Victoria at Timbertop and Geelong Grammar School until COVID-19 impacted cross border access. He was only in Anchorage for a few short weeks and is now settled into Eclipse with all of the Year Nines.

Year Nine Transition

The biggest news for Anchorage has been the Year Nine boys transitioning to Eclipse House with the senior boys for the next stage of their boarding journey. This was completed smoothly, and it was very encouraging to see boys helping each other to move their belongings to their new rooms.

Recreation Shed

The Year Sevens and Eights have started to take on some ownership and pride in Anchorage and they independently decided to make the recreation shed space their own and spent many hours over the weekend cleaning and tidying up. They made good use of the skip bin that has been placed out the back of Anchorage for the builders. The difference they made to this space is incredible and they were rightly very proud of themselves.

Year Seven

The Year Seven boys have been very excited to move into the senior wing of Anchorage, as the upgrade commences. It was all hands-on-deck with families and fellow boarders assisting.

Activities

The summer sports programme, for those boarders who enjoy their sport, has commenced with boys attending basketball and cricket, tennis coaching and golf coaching. Many other boys enjoy pursuits such as Dungeons and Dragons.

Anchorage Upgrades

The upgrade to Anchorage has started and we are now using much less of the shared space. The painters have begun painting and the Year Eights may need to move to the Year Nine wing in the near future, it will depend how long the painting in the Year Seven wing takes. We will let you know if they are required to move as the term progresses.

Fundraising

The Anchorage boarders would like to raise money this year for the organisation Backpack Bed for Homeless Australia which provides swags for homeless people in Perth. The boys have agreed to hold a car wash on the afternoon of Sunday 21 November. The car wash will be advertised in The Anchor and the boys will be fully supervised to wash cars on the lawn at boarding. A cuppa and a cake can also be provided for a little extra to enjoy in the sunshine while their car is washed. It is pleasing to see our Anchorage boarders raising funds for homeless people in need of shelter.  Car washes will be $10.00 for small cars, $15.00 for four wheel drives and a cuppa and cake to go with it for $5.00 extra.

Birthdays

Best wishes to Michael Watson as he turned 15 in the first week of term. We celebrated with an ice cream cake prior to the Year Nines moving to Eclipse. Austin Brown celebrated his birthday this week, happy birthday!
