Dear Parents,
This week the College celebrated the Mazenod Literature Festival with the theme “Shared Happiness”. The virtual festival can still be accessed and I encourage you to check out the authors, presentations and the Shared Stories entries that include entries from 2019 to current submissions. The Festival also included competitions and streams from the Library Reading Area. Thanks to the library staff, teachers, students and parents who participated organised and planned the event Mazenod Literature Festival (Virtual)
Gabriel Chen (Year 10) and his family received the news this week that Gabriel received the Kwong Lee Dow Scholarship from the University of Melbourne. Congratulations Gabriel on this accomplishment.
During Friday morning, the Year 11 students attended Careers and Vocation Workshops with guest presenters from the Universities and TAFE Colleges. Sessions included workshops from REACH as well. These activities were planned during the year and needed to be postponed due to restrictions.
With the news of 90% vaccinations, it is imperative we continue with our hygiene practices and COVID plans but it is exciting to know our Year 7 Camps, Year 9 Outdoor Ed activities and Year 12 Celebrations on Sunday, December 5th are all set to go.
The Year 12 Gathering provides an opportunity for the Year 12 students and their parents to celebrate their Graduation in an informal way with some entertainment, “Street Food” and a few acknowledgements. The formal farewell was conducted earlier in the term but this event is designed to be a more casual celebration of our Year 12s achievements and the opportunity for families to gather together.
The two week Transition period starting next week is also a time of optimism and forward-thinking. There is an energy we missed while in isolation and Remote Learning. That energy is returning as the calendar for 2022 is being finalised. Dr Paul Shannon has been on campus a couple of times already and next week all year levels will be addressed by the new Principal for 2022.
Next week the Music Department are conducting Recitals from Monday to Thursday for the respective Year Levels. The Year 8 and 9 students attended their Reflection Days this week. Many thanks to our Oblate Youth Team, Anthony Bolling, Luke Schaefer and Adil Alvares for their preparation and leading of these activities.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Tony Coghlan
Principal
