Staff Professional Learning with Maths Consultant Michael Minas
Curriculum Day Monday 1 May and Observations Wednesday 3 May
On Monday, our staff participated in a professional learning day with Maths Consultant Michael Minas. Michael walked our staff through a Mathematics lesson with a focus on problem solving and differentiation within the classroom. Yesterday, Michael modelled Maths lessons in Year 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6 classes as our teachers observed him in practice. Our teaching teams are now looking at how these teaching strategies can be further implemented within our classrooms to engage and cater for all learners.

Open Day Tours - Monday 8 May and Monday 15 May
On Monday, we will be conducting the first of our Open Day Tours for families of prospective 2024 Foundation Students. We will be conducting two tours, with the first commencing at 9:30 am and the second at 11:45 am. As these new families come into the school, we greet them and introduce ourselves as the Principal Team and then hand the tours over to our Year 5/6 students, who conduct extremely engaging and thorough tours for these prospective families. We take great pride in having our students conduct the tours, as they are incredibly articulate when talking about our school and the wider community. Our Year 5/6 students are the best representation of how we nurture student voice, wellbeing and learning at CNPS. We have always received feedback from our visitors on how impressive our students are when conducting these tours.
North Eastern Melbourne Area Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
Showcase Day Thursday 11 May
Next Thursday, our Schoolwide Positive Behaviour/Respectful Relationships Team (Billy, Emily, Jesse and Rachel) will be attending a Showcase Day at Melbourne Polytechnic Preston Campus. This showcase is an opportunity for schools to share the work they are doing in the SWPBS space. It is also a great opportunity to collaborate with other schools and arrange visits to share best practice in wellbeing supports for our students.
Foundation Special Person’s Morning (for Mother’s Day) Activities - Friday 12 May
Next Friday, we look forward to our Foundation Students pampering and spoiling the Special Persons in their lives to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, 14 May. We will share photos of the event on Seesaw and in our Week 4 newsletter. Watch this space for extreme cuteness!
National Walk to School Safely Day Friday 19 May
National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual event when all Primary School children are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the Environment.
The objectives of WSTSD are:
- To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school age children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.
- To promote the health benefits of walking and help create regular walking habits at an early age.
- To ensure that children up to 10 years old hold an adult's hand when crossing the road.
- To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.
- To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age and which will be difficult to change as children become adults.
- To promote the use of Public Transport.
- To reduce the level of air pollution created by motor vehicles.
- To reduce the level of traffic congestion.
In light of the upcoming National Walk Safely to School Day, we would also like to remind our parents and carers of children that may walk to school on their own to please talk to your child about safe pedestrian behaviour and to be aware of the behaviours of any unknown persons as they walk to school, including sticking to main roads and avoiding alleyways, etc.
