Explore the Learning in Grade 3

This term, we have been delighted to witness the students' enthusiasm, dedication, and joyful approach to learning every day. Their natural curiosity and zest for knowledge have made our classrooms vibrant and exciting.

 

Inquiry: 

During our inquiry-based learning unit, students have eagerly dived into the world of wind energy. They have enjoyed the process of creating, designing, and testing their very own wind-powered vehicles. Through this hands-on experience, they have not only learned about different forces but also gained a deeper understanding of the design process, including trialling and redesigning to improve their vehicles. Witnessing their curiosity and excitement throughout this project has brilliant.

 

Reading: 

Our students have developed and refined a range of valuable comprehension strategies during their reading sessions. They have explored the art of comparing and contrasting, enabling them to analyse similarities and differences between characters, settings, and storylines. Additionally, they have mastered the skills of skimming and scanning, allowing them to quickly locate specific information within texts. Making connections, inferring, and asking and answering thoughtful questions have also been pivotal in their journey toward becoming proficient readers. We are proud of their progress and their ability to navigate texts with confidence and insight.

 

Writing: 

In writing, our students have focused on crafting procedural and explanation texts, directly linking their learning to their wind-powered vehicles project. They have skillfully composed step-by-step procedures, outlining the process of activities they were familiar with. Furthermore, they have honed their ability to explain scientific concepts such as how they could harness the wind to power their vehicles during their unit on explanation texts. Alongside these written tasks, students have also studied various grammar focuses, including word modality, upgrading verbs, expanding sentences, and identifying subjects and verbs in sentences. These skills will undoubtedly enhance their overall writing proficiency.

 

Maths:

In maths, our students have explored various essential topics. They have developed strong addition and subtraction strategies, equipping them with the tools to solve  mathematical problems confidently. Furthermore, they have explored graphing and data, analysing and interpreting information presented in visual forms. Additionally, they have honed their spatial awareness skills by engaging in grid mapping activities, allowing them to comprehend locations and navigate maps.
