LIBRARY NEWS MAY

Library Space

It is that time of year again, where the air is much cooler, and the days have more rain.

The library is open every school day at Recess and Lunchtime and students are invited to use the space for reading, studying, socialising, playing board or card games and online games.

Year 7 Library Skills

All Year 7 students have been exploring the resources of the library and learning important research skills. They learnt to use the library catalogue, browse our fiction collection, and borrow eBooks.

In preparation for their upcoming Humanities research assignment, they were able to practice ‘smart searching’, differentiate between fact and opinion and given the tools needed to create a bibliography.

We thoroughly enjoyed having all Year 7 classes in the library and hope to see them come in and borrow something to read just for pleasure.

Makerspace Thursdays

Every Thursday in J11, Ms Ahles is running the Makerspace lunchtime program.

Students interested in using their creativity can join in, learning new things or even start a new hobby! Keep your eyes out for a new project every week and head over to J11 at lunch time on Thursdays.

Chess in the Library

With the continuing popularity of chess, students are welcome to use the library space and chess sets during recess and lunchtime. Students are encouraged to invite, play, and learn from players of all skill levels. You can also find Mr Pearce for Chess Club in A1 at lunch time on Fridays.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge – running now until September!

Looking for more books to add to your reading list? The Premiers’ Reading Challenge has over 15,000 books to choose from with a wide range of titles from all genres and all levels.

The theme for this year's Challenge is “Wild About Reading,” motivating students to let their imagination run wild across every book they read.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian students Years 7-10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for students to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.

We encourage students to get their literacy and read this year by joining the Premiers Reading Challenge at the library.
