Physical Education

Junior School - Gymnastics

Over the last four P.E lessons students have been working on developing their ability to body in different ways through a variety of modified gymnastics  stations. These stations have progressively got more challenging and allowed students to showcase their individual strengths. The main skills the students have been working on are: forward roll, backward roll, hand stand, cartwheel, mini tramp bounce with control, forward support, backward support, increasing core strength and balancing. This unit is always an enjoyable one for the students.

Middle School - Swimming

Year 3 and 4 students completed their 5 day swim and survive program at Casey Race recently. Thanks to the Swimming in Schools funding we were able to offer this for $20. Needless to say we had 95% of students attend. Swimming is very much a skill that all students need to have and it was great to see the students grow in confidence throughout the week.

Senior School - Lightning Premier Sports

On Wednesday 7th June year 5 and 6 students headed off to a variety of locations to play different sports against schools in our district. We were very lucky that the weather played nice until we were on the bus on the way back to school.  Needless to say the students had a super day and to top it off there were lots of compliments from staff from other schools praising our sportsmanship and behaviour.

Regional Cross Country

Congratulations to sisters Lara A (5/6a) and Sophie A (4a) for competing at Regional Cross Country on Wednesday 14th June.

Lara placed 20th and Sophie 24th. Outstanding achievements!

District Athletics

On Wednesday 21st June we had 33 students head to Casey Fields Athletics Track to represent the school at the District Athletics carnival. It was a marvellous day with the sun shining and the students displaying the Cranbourne South spirit.

There were some outstanding results with lots of students placing in the top 3 for their events.

More information regarding students who have qualified for the Division carnival will be provided next term.

Thanks to all the parents and caregivers who came and cheered the students on. Special mention to Miss A and Mrs Waiti for their organisational skills and assisting the students on the day.

Social Wellbeing

Within Social Wellbeing the students have been discussing a variety of topics. Foundation, year 1 and 2 have had a focus on Safe choices and Safe people. Looking at the way different scenarios can be safe or unsafe depending on the time of day, who is with us and the weather conditions.

Years 3 and 4 have been discussing Conflict Resolution and the ways to respectfully resolve conflict. Such as talking calmly, taking turns to tell their truth, admitting when they have made a poor choice, and ways to fix a situation. We have also discussed our strengths and weaknesses and how they make us who we are.

Years 5 and 6 have been looking at their identity as well as health support services that exist in the community they can use. Along with how to know when to trust information they read on the internet.

Project Rockit

The Years 3-6 also participated in an incursion by Project Rockit. The Senior School looked at an empowering introduction to the digital world, exploring the opportunities and challenges of online communication, as well as strategies to navigate conflict online. The Middle School explored the importance of building inclusive school communities, with strategies and empathy to combat social exclusion and increase awareness of diverse perspectives.

Artistic Flair

All students in the school have been working on their portfolio tasks and consolidating what they have learnt about beat and rhythm. They have enjoyed trying the new instruments, especially the boomwhackers!

Foundation students have the bumble bee song to clap to their parent/carer at the student led conference next term. They can show you how the beat 'stays the same' and the rhythm 'follows the words' and has short and long sounds. They loved the 'rainbow ring' (our new giant rainbow elastic band) and singing and dancing to songs and chants.

Year 1 and 2 students have created their own fruit salad rhythm they can clap to their special person. They have learnt to clap the syllables of different fruits eg. Blueberries has 3 sounds, apple has 2 sounds (claps). This has created terrific links with reading and spelling as well as leading into learning musical notation. Year 1 students enjoyed the 'rainbow ring', have sung songs and learnt to match their body movements to the sounds of the music. We were too busy to take photos!

Year 3 and 4 students have really enjoyed the boomwhackers and working in small groups to practise a short piece of music with tuned instruments. Baby Shark was a favourite! They are learning the coloured notes and working towards learning the note names.

Year 5 and 6 students have enjoyed playing rhythm and beat games, four corners was a favourite! They had to listen to a rhythm that was clapped and match it to the correct notation picture. The competition was intense!

They have completed their task for their portfolio and can show you how to clap their own rhythms they have drawn with Ta, Ti-Ti and Za's.  Students have used boomwhackers to collaboratively perform simple tunes such as Hot Cross buns and the Alphabet Song.
