Principal’s Message

St Joseph’s School is a faith filled community where learning matters.  This statement underpins everything we do and helps inform our decisions for the future.  Learning is our highest priority and we strive to provide opportunities which cater for the development of the individual child.  At St Joseph’s we expect students to display respectful behaviour including good manners at all times.  Essentially, this expectation means that students must focus on learning and not interrupt the learning of others.

Recently, I spoke with our new Kinder 2020 parents and suggested they ask five important questions about learning - What did you learn? How did you go? How do you know? How can you improve? Where do you go for help if you need it?  I encourage all parents to ask your children these questions regularly and they will know you are interested in their learning.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten Transition class who graduated last week! The program was led by Mrs Judy McManus who will be teaching Kindergarten next year. The children are now very familiar with the school staff, routines and each other! We look forward to welcoming them to St Joseph’s next year.

Congratulations to our Stage 3 students who recently visited Canberra for their major excursion. They had a great time visiting many landmarks including the War Memorial, National Gallery, National Museum and Questacon to name a few.  Thank you to the P & F Association for their generous donation towards the excursion.  Special thanks to Mrs Lockwood, Miss O’Shea, Mr Perkins and Mr O’Toole for giving up their personal time to supervise the students for the week.

It a truly exciting time for us as we head towards the conclusion of the first stage of building works. The new building design is outstanding and we look forward to moving into it in the new year. As you can imagine, there is a lot of work involved in moving so we will have two additional pupil free days at the start of 2020. Therefore, school will commence for students in Years 1-6 on Monday 3rd February 2020. Please see inside for more details. If you need any more information please contact the school office.

May God bless you,

Katie Hanes
