The Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and Surf Coast Secondary is excited to be participating. A new application is being used this year that offers a range of exciting features including:
- Access to a library catalogue (including book images and blurbs)
- A modern user-friendly interface
- Rewarding students with badges as challenge milestones are achieved
- The option for students to mark books as a favourite, give them a star rating or complete a book review
The challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by September 4th 2020. Surf Coast Secondary College have activated all Years 7 - 9 students, which they will receive log in details through their mentor teachers. If any Year 10 students would like to participate please email me at Jennifer.Moss@education.vic.gov.au.
Children from Years 7 - 10 are challenged to read 15 books. All students who meet the challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

Why Not Try These Books...
Unearthed & Undying
Harry Potter fans will like this book. When earth intercepts a message from a long-extinct alien race, it seems like the solution the planet has been waiting for. The Undying's advanced technology has the potential to undo massive environmental damage and turn lives around, and Gaia, the Undying's former home planet, is a treasure trove waiting to be uncovered.
Jules and Amelia go to the alien planet for their own different reasons but team up together to find the treasures hidden. They must figure out the clues to get to the next stage not unlike Harry did but with Scabbers hot on their tails.
What they find is not what they expected.
Changing Gear
Merrick is supposed to be studying for his end of year exams but takes off on a postie bike with a bedroll and a little cash. His parents are separated and think he is at the other ones house. He has no plan, he turns down a street when he feels like it but ends up in the middle no where with a broken bike. Thankfully he meets Victor, a nice old bloke who has been travelling for years and joins him on a walking adventure learning a lot along the way.
Happy reading!
