Alumnae Good works
Prue Barber (1997)
Alumnae Prue Barber talks about her mission saving stray animals in Bali, Indonesia.
I was born and raised in Melbourne and enjoyed a very blessed upbringing and education at Sacré Cœur. I went on to study graphic design and work in creative agencies in Melbourne, London and Sydney. Today my life is poles apart from the corporate life I once knew and I couldn’t be happier. I live in Bali, Indonesia, a developing country, saving stray, abandoned and homeless animals.
Anyone that knew me at school knew I loved my pets. My pets offered kindness, solace and joy not always found in everyday life. However, when I started to travel to places such as India, Nepal and Southeast Asia, my eyes were opened to the true suffering these animals endure.
After 12 months of backpacking, I found myself in Bali. Applying my graphic design and marketing skills I helped an animal shelter grow its brand and donations. Learning from this experience (both the good and the bad), I focused my energy on creating a sustainable charity model that would save lives, educate others and empower individuals. In 2015, Mission Paws’ible Charity was officially registered in Australia.
Now, as I look back, it’s clear my Sacred Heart education instilled core values I have unknowingly practiced for decades. Here in Bali we are building a community, creating social awareness that impels action and we are educating and empowering others around animal welfare and pet care.
Today, as the world is navigating through the second year of the pandemic we have big dreams of saving more animals. We are building
The Healing Centre . This centre will give recently rescued dogs a proper chance to heal and a quiet place to decompress in preparation for adoption.
We have purchased a large block of land 10 minutes away from the thriving tourist hotspot, Canggu. This land will contain both The Healing Centre, as well as our other project, Unleashed - the world’s first revenue-based dog park and pet centre. One hundred percent of Unleashed’s profits will go towards The Healing Centre operations as well as island-wide animal welfare programs focused on stopping the suffering of so many animals, education, vaccination and supporting other animal welfare warriors on the front line.
