Year 9 Dance Academy

The Year 9 Dance Academy students and Mrs Cameron have had a busy two weeks attending video classes with The Sydney Dance Company and The Australian Ballet. On Thursday 19 August, they attended a video class with The Sydney Dance Company at the Wanganui Campus which was organised by Ms McGregor.

They participated in a contemporary workshop with the Year 10, 11 and 12 students and created improvisations in pairs, based on the idea of roller coasters and the idea of impermanence and the transitory nature of life, which reflects the roller coaster of lockdowns we are experiencing.

On Friday 27 August, before our quarantine period started, students attended a video class on Teams with Chantelle, Riley and Alex from The Australian Ballet. They participated in a contemporary warm up and discussed alignment and safe warmups. They also learnt part of Lady Montague’s dance from Romeo and Juliet. They then improvised and manipulated the steps using different body parts, levels and directions to change the dance. A big thank you to The Sydney Dance Company and The Australian Ballet who provided these workshops free of charge.
