Curriculum

Selamat Siang Foundation families. We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing weekend and have been able to get outside and enjoy some of the recent sunshine! It is hard to believe we are coming to the end of Term 3, but we are almost there! It has been a challenging term for everyone, particularly the students. We are very impressed with the students resilience, perseverance and enthusiasm throughout the term.

In all learning areas last week we had a focus on Fairy Tales and students began the week by giving their teacher clues to guess a fairy tale. It was lots of fun and some were quire challenging for the teachers to guess! Students also looked at the parts of fairy tale, Hansel and Gretel by identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution. The students also helped me (Miss Dawson) get ready for my maternity leave by coming up with a list of things I will need to look after a baby and some advice to help me look after a baby. I haven't seen them yet, but I'm excited to see what amazing ideas the Foundation students had to share with me!

In Maths we also continued to explore Fairy Tales, but through the concept of capacity by finding different bowls for Baby Bear, Mummy Bear and Daddy Bear from Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Students had the opportunity to compare the capacity of different containers to find out which holds more and which holds less by using water and rice or oats. It was fantastic to see students explaining their understanding of capacity by using phrases such as 'holds more' and 'holds less' and justifying how they knew that.

Last week's Choice Board also had a focus on Fairy Tales, which was lots of fun! Have a look at some of the amazing creations from the suggestions!
