Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selamat Siang parents, carers and families!

Welcome to the last week of Term! What a challenging time it has been but the students have shined, shown resilience, persevered when things got tough and tried their best. What an amazing group of students we have in the Inquiry Centre!

While we still had our daily set Maths and Literacy tasks everyday, the activities all followed a shared theme of travelling to different countries. The students did an awesome job of researching and learning about new places around the world.

In Literacy, the tasks focused on creating information reports using information about the students to create a passport and researching countries from around the world and learning interesting facts about them. Many students focused on countries where they had family connections, while others explored places completely unknown. At the end of the week, students had the opportunity to present their findings using their voices and practised using their Speaking & Listening skills.

For Maths, students practiced measuring distance using formal and informal units when measuring how far their paper planes could travel. There were some huge distances recorded, which must mean some very high quality paper planes! They also put their money knowledge to the test when trying to find the value of souvenirs to bring back with them in their suitcases, with the option of an extra added challenge of calculating change. The students also looked at data displays and used their understandings of time and duration to create an itinerary for a day out in their destination.

Our Weekly Choice Board offered a range of activities for students to choose from, including time and duration in Maths, creating questions in Reading and two different stem challenges. We also welcomed Spring with a Spring themed scavenger hunt and celebrated others by creating Strength Spotting Awards for people around us who display fantastic character strengths. Students were encouraged to make connections to country in our First Nations activity, where they thought about the animals and things that make Australia special to them.

We would normally celebrate Footy Day on the last Friday of term, so help us keep the excitement up by dressing in your sporty colours! We also have our End of Term Assembly on Zoom this Friday, so be sure to join us!

Terimah kasih,
